Wasn't that a case with a lot of PB recruits?

It would be preferred to read a positive article above the crease next time, Mr. Sherrington. Thanks

If this kid follows Bennett to Marshall, will that make him a Mountain Dews?

Bennett is not going to Marshall, but somewhat funny nonetheless

I don't see it as an attack on SMU. It's an attempt to play up the emotional aspect of one of the darker sides of recruiting.

Sherrington quoted a sob-story e-mail he got from the kid (which he probably didn't write by himself - have you seen how poorly even honor students write these days?). Sherrington took it and ran with it. A columnist is always searching for an emotional tug, and unfortunately this one dealt with SMU. You watch, one day he'll write a similar, touching column about June Jones surving his car accident.

At least Sherrington mentioned other schools that have yanked offers recently. The difference, I guess, is those kids and their coaches didn't go crying to the newspapers. And because it was SMU and not some Big 12 school, I suspect, the Tyler Lee coach feels he can go off on us.

I did notice that he grew an inch and dropped a few pounds in the column compared to what Rivals has. At 6-1, 335 he sounds like a more legitimate prospect than 6-0, 343. Whatever. Good luck to Ralston Dews. It's an unfortunate circumstance but it will probably turn out to be the best thing to happen to him. If Todd Dodge were smart, he'd offer him just to get the publicity bang and create more negative headlines about SMU.

go to the OLD COACH FORUM and you will see many high school coaches that support SMU--a pleasant surprise. Wish Sherrington had read this before he wrote the story.

Dear Coach Owens:

F- you and your "place", we won't miss it. Bennett supposedly focused on E. Texas and look what that got us....

That ought to help us with recruiting inroads in the rose city.

Well, that's just my unofficial "ponyfans" position. I am working on an official press release right now where I say "Although I empathize with this young person's plight, I wish him well in all his endeavors and welcome a dialogue with Coach Owens."

Be sure to include something in there about receiving counseling from your spiritual advisors, one of whom actually happens be an alum of Tyler Lee, and another who is actually an east Texan.

Good stuff, RGV, I'm editiing even as we speak. I also have a line about Jones being a godfearing Christian who is just devestated about this. I am debating whether to fall on my sword and take personal responsibility for not contacting the recruit earlier by phone to tell him....

And one who likes to wear those Bike coach's shorts, polyester pullover shirts, knee high athletic socks with colored stripes, a baseball cap with the mesh backing and a flat brim, and large mirrored sunglasses.
