For QBs, Dan Morrison normally goes through all of the DVDs, then he shows the ones he feels are real candidates to JJ. That is how they did it at UH and I'm sure that is how they will do it at SMU.

yeah but both Bess and Brennan were known prospects who originally signed with BCS schools. The only issues on Brennan and Bess were really character issues. Yeah he looked at the tapes but he knew that they were prospects.

Maybe they got Caretaker to get some of the prisoner tapes for them to watch.

Yeah, that was a good segment! They showed about six mail bins full of letters, tapes, and dvd's. That was OL coach Dennis McKnight, he was watching film with. Has ch. 5 put this on their site?

I don't think any of them have remaining eligibility, except Bo.
this ain't bad news but I'll be a lot happier when we don't have to look at tapes of recruits who don't know where they are going 10 days before the Dead Period starts. I bet looking through hundreds of tapes of players desperately looking for their first offer might actually be counterproductive at this point.
.............The thing is, I'm telling you, JJ & staff can find talent. I would sure rather have him finding quality recruits from a list of 2 Star kids than any other coach I know.

Actually, Brennan never did send a tape directly to UH. How he got on Hawaii's radar was by complete accident.
It was a radio reporter in California who gave game film of a Saddleback wide receiver (Jerard Rabb, the guy who went on to play at Boise State) to Rich Miano. Miano reviewed the tape and was intrigued not by Rabb but by the quarterback (Brennan) throwing the ball with pinpoint accuracy. It was Miano who took that tape back to UH and showed it to the other coaches who were also captivated by what they saw. Only after that did Jones invite Brennan (and Rabb) for a visit to UH. If it weren't for Miano being in the right place at the right time or if he had only concentrated on the receiver and not noticing the quarterback, Brennan would have ended up at San Jose State instead (his cousin is an assistant coach there).

I totally agree with you but the "rumor" going around is that they are getting a bunch of information and inquiries from players that have already committed to other schools, and yes, including commitments to BCS schools. Who knows if it will materialize into anything but I wouldn't at all be surprised if we got some kids that we might say "wow" over.

Some of these tapes could be from the potential late qualifiers you are always saying we should recruit.

Hopefully some of the DVD's are from BCS commitments who don't want to ride the pine until their redshirt junior or senior years

That's exactly what I was thinking and you guys beat me to the punch. What if some of these tapes are from recruits that normally would have been "out of our league", or because they are committed elsewhere, JJ & company wouldn't focus their attention on recruiting them and the recruit wanted to put out a feeler?
