June Jones had an impressive run of putting long, lean, agile DEs on the field at Hawaii and a few of them are still in the league.

In recent years, Iowa's Scott Chandler and Purdue's Kyle Ingraham were both 6'6" or taller and carved solid niches in spread offenses as jump-ball threats along sidelines and long bodies in the middle of the field to get after tough balls in traffic. They werent just big, though, as they had opportunities to play other sports in college and were great athletes. Is Thompson a basketball player? I'd love to see a 5'11" bigman from a rival 3A school defending him on the block. Regardless, I'm excited at the push to recruit a great athlete and let him gravitate into a role

Either way, nice problem for SMU to have if they're looking at a 6'7" specimen that can run, use his hands effectively, and has something in his head. A coaching buddy scouted Celina when they played Prosper and all he could marvel was about Thompson's raw talent and how he'll project into a dominant something at the next level if placed in the right system.

I give automatic dap to any kid looking into Vanderbilt. Great school, unbelievable city, and a chance to play in the SEC would be tough to beat, so I'm sure June has a solid pitch to make this weekend. The fact he's visiting is a sign of good things.

very true, I am almost as excited about the fact that the kid is even taking a visit let alone if we get him or not, hopefully a sign of more good things to come. not something we have seen around here for some time! :)

Just to throw another name, Miami's Calais Campbell, who was regarded as the top DE college prospect going into this past season is 6'7'' and plays "high".

I'm just waiting for someone to say something like: Yeah, he'd be great, but he'd head off to the NFL after his junior year, so what's the use in going after a guy who won't be here four full years.

There's always one in the crowd.

Red zone offense against 5'9" to 6"0 DB's.
What a option that would be.

Stallion reported that he is committed to Vanderbilt as a defensive end, but IF he comes to SMU, even as a it would be funny to see him in a short-yardage package that also includes Patrick Fleming (6-4) and Bradley Haynes (6-3).

Can you say Jump ball !

We need some Prosper Eagles on our team.
Good people up there in Collin Co.
Maybe we can go a couple miles north of Prosper & get a couple of those studs from Celina.

TCU's board is reporting that he committed to us last night. TCU is also saying that they had no interest in him. But that he wanted to come to TCU.
