the gum is the way to go... I quit dipping last may just before I came back for my internship... I went through a ton of gum, but it helped (until school started). I always find it best to try and quit when you go on a vacation. I was gone for two weeks and only brought the gum, and by the time I got home I was good, just don't let the headaches ruin your vacation

Okay you guys have sold me.... I'll do the snus thing for a bit, and then switch to the gum.
A bit equaling a couple days, or couple weeks. Not a couple months.

I'm down for that deal. Monday it is. Until then I'll be hitting the snus button.

i was into dipping and snus and crap. i got the wakeup call when a friend of mine went to the doctor and found out 60% of his lip was gone after just 5 years of dipping. they said cancer was almost a sure thing for him down the road

Hey I just need to not be smoking. I don't want to use the term 'quit' becuase I don't want to be obsessing about not smoking.
And from what I've read up on it, the dangers of swedish snus aren't anywhere on the same chart as smoking. And nowhere near as dangerous as other oral tobaccos.
However, I don't have to worry about it for long. Come Monday, I'll be chewing the nicotine gum. But, in the meantime, I also won't be smoking.

How do you not notice 60% of your lip missing?

Thad- I started smoking the summer before my senior year in high school, which was 2001. Sometime in the second week of Oct 2007 I ran out of cigarettes and decided not to go buy a new pack because it was late I didn't feel like going to the store. The next morning I decided that I didnt have enough time to stop on the way to work to buy a pack because I wanted to get breakfast instead. It has been five months smoke free for me. Good luck to you!

I've been dipping for almost 12 years (a can a day the last 4 years) and haven't had any issues. my dad has been dipping/chewing over 35 years (when you could chew in high school baseball games) and has had no problems.... guess it's just luck, which is why I am always trying to motivate myself to quit

Can't say I have any experience in this avenue, as I never had to kick the smoking habit. I wish you luck. Great that you've found something that is working for you.

Trouble with that is the ultimate motivation will come when it is too late. You ought to quit while you are still lucky.

I can't believe that you guys are hurting one of the few remaining US manufacturing businesses. Do you want even more UNT grads on the street? Be Americans, smoke like chimneys. This message is brought to you by a long time investor in Altria who has never smoked a day in his life. Just kidding about not quitting, but I do own Altria, keep up the good work and fight to quit. You'll be happy you did.
