definitely not the one just east of Preston/121 near Ohio. Shuttered just like the topics of this thread.

1. Someone told me that only corporate bennigans/s&a are closing, and franchises will remain open. Not sure about that one.

2. Furrs is much better than Luby's. Same food.... all you can eat.

That's somewhat true. The franchises have their own option if they want to stay open or not (in truth, don't they always have that option)?

That being said, I heard that all the DFW locations are corporate-owned

And, by the way, S&A is 100% corporate-owned, so they are gone for good.

It is odd. You would think that the owners would be using the bankruptcy to close some underperforming restaurants and get out of some expensive leases. However, it appears that they are shutting down the whole thing. Surely somebody could run some of the restaurants at a profit. Not sure the owners are getting the best bankruptcy advice.

The Steak & Ale on 635 around/between Skillman and Abrams was where my folks told my older brother and sister that they were gonna' have a little brother.

Last time I was at a Steak and Ale I was meeting up with a fellow PF'er at the closest restaurant to his office. Haven't been to a Shenanigans, err, Bennigans since senior year in high school. Maybe that was a TGI Fridays. Funny enough, Longhornfan68's then girlfriend had yet to meet me, so she wanted to buy me dinner.... can't turn down a free dinner, huh? (Yes, despite the "68" for those who haven't met him, he's my age, we went to high school together.)

So those are my best tales of those establishments.... any of you got some other stories? Oh, my roommate sophomore year -- when we lived in the Peach Palace by the law school -- was a Bennigan's waiter, I never visited him at work. Not once.
Did they wear plenty of flair?

The company is keeping the Ponderosa and Bonanza restaurants open
(why they chose to keep those open, I've no idea).

I hope you're kidding. Those places are absolutely disgusting. Corn and broccoli and carrots are not supposed to be the same shade of brown.

Do not know how it has been in the past several years, but back in my time, many of the SMU sorority girls worked at S&A and wore little skimpy outfits that accented their "assets". Often times I would ask my date to put on her S&A outfit and let me drop by for a visit.

Morning News says that the Bennigans in Las Colinas and the one in the DFW airport will remain open, so if you want to grab a Monte Cristo, you still can.

I have worked up in Plano at EDS since the late 80's and back in the day, Bennigans was about the only sit down restaurant around. Had many a lunch there, even though I have not been to one in years.

Earlier this year, the parent companies of the Bakers Square, Village Inn and Old Country Buffet filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Other chains, including Outback Steakhouse and Ruby Tuesday, also are floundering.
Gooood, bye, Ruuuuby Tuesday,

The bennigans sport's grill is still open here on beltline and the tollway. drove by it today and saw it's lot was filled during lunchtime.

Are you sure those weren't creditors lining up instead?

Have to agree there. Grew up eating those at the Garland locale on 635 (which has been a funeral home for years) and the Spring Valley locale in Richardson (which is now a Chinese buffet).
