We're going to Annapolis and not New Orleans? That's news to me. Seems like that news would have reached the band members by now...

i think we should worry about what's on the field first before we worry about people playing musical instruments in the stands...

Once again those who know NOTHING about the M Band are posting rants on the board.....

The Mustang Band is not in the athletic department. It is in student affairs. The travel budget is not set set by the athletic department. It is set by student affairs. Therefore, giving money to the Mustang Club (although a necessity to support SMU Athletics) gets the Mustang Band nowhere. The Diamond M Club is the organization that raises money to support the band. If you want the band to be bigger (remember it costs $40k a year to go to SMU now) and going more places, I strongly encourage you to donate to the Diamond M Club (and of course the Mustang Club).

Ok maybe someone can "pony up" and give an endowment for the M Band to travel to all away games.

I dont think I have ever been asked to donate to the Diamond M club. Thanks for the info and I would suggest some sort of fundraising/mktg/educational campaign(mailer)...as i dont think most people know what you just told us. Unlike rice, our band rocks.

This is a great idea. We have had it for the past 10 years, but the university and athletic departments keep their mailings lists under tight control. This is something I can understand, because they both don't want a bunch of different organizations fund raising alums and supporters of SMU, however, they could at least piggy back contribution options in other fund raising materials and mailings.

I just received my season tickets in the mail and there were no brochures for the Mustang Club or the Diamond M club. What a waste.

Most people don't know it, but the Mustang Band is in a world of hurt.
1) Their scholarship budget is enough for 4 students. You heard me correctly, I said four (4).
2) The "temporary" band hall which was built in the basement of the natatorium in 1958, is about to be razed for the new swimming facility, and the band does not have a new home.

I applaud the university's efforts with salaries, uniform and instrument budgets, but major funds must to be raised and allocated to the band's facilities and scholarship funds.

For the past 30 years, the university makes promises to include the band in fund raisers, but these promises are never kept. A new band hall was to be build in Ownby Stadium in the laste 70's. It did not happen. A new band hall was a possibility of the building fund campaign of the 90's, if the fund raising goals were met. This campaign was 50 million over the goal, but alas, no new band hall.

Four years ago, the SMU Band Partnership was started to raise money for facilities and scholarships. The univeristy promised help with mailings and brochures, but at the last minute, the donor list was not made available, and the campaign has struggled.

The university has got to include the Mustang Band in future mailings and fund raisers, or we just might end up with our own version of "The Mob", and I for one would no longer contribute, attend or have any involvement with SMU.

Hey, the band gives out great scholarships. My 1/38th tuition I recevied in my time (one of the higher at the time) almost covered books each semester!

Relax, the cheerleaders are coming over to my house during those games. I'm not sure what the band is doing -- we're going to be playing some Barry White CDs.

For whatever reason, the MBand has not traveled to Lubbock since pre-DP days. Guess the bus picks up too much dust on the way.

Band, yes (without a doubt) - Big difference. Cheerleaders at SMU are spares. Can you imagine Tech, Texas, even NTSU or TCU putting a bunch of deadbeats like we have on the field. Something is amiss.
