good question...how about if we take it in a different direction. Let's say a school that's been forced to change its name to something less offensive (say, North Dakota) wanted to become the Fighting Ligers...would PETA jump in the way, saying unnatural mating practices shouldn't be encouraged?Alaric wrote:do any ncaa rules prohibit the use of ligers? academic eligibility might be a problem but they'd be beasts on the d line

One of the first DVDs I bought. Never having seen it. Seriously. When I got my DVD player sophomore year in college, I think I bought fifteen movies at the same time... I was like, directed by Paul Schrader, he wrote Taxi Driver and directed films like American Gigolo and The Comfort of Strangers (based on the excellent Ian McEwan novel).... and besides Nastassja Kinski is/was hot. Plus, it was fall 1998, and I justified it by saying had I been a college student 15 years before at least every other dorm room would have that famous Nastassja and the snake poster... I am doing my part.
Anybody know the actual stat from the early 80s? Anecdotally I have heard that it hung in half of all male dorm rooms in the early 80s... and I do know it was the best selling poster of that era.
The flick turned out to be pretty darn cool, in a cult classic kind of way.

Though I have since seen the original 1942 version, and the old one seems to get under your skin in ways the the '82 version didn't. The orignal was a super low budget flick from RKO the year after Citizen Kane.... in comparison Ciizen Kane grossed only half a million. Cat People grossed $4 million (huge box office numbers at the time).
In any case, if you guys haven't seen the '82 cult classic give it a whirl.... I won't recommend the older one to anybody but those folks who can get past the conventions of old films, and black and white photography.
