One dinner is at the Salt Lick, but the rest is wide open. Thoughts?
If you want a great upscale and very popular Mexican restaurant, you cannot beat "Fonda San Miquel". A little off the beaten path several miles north of downtown but well worth finding it. A great place to take a business guest.

the best food in the city is at "The Roaring Fork" just south of the Capitol...the other, if you want sea food, is "Eddie V's" -- for a breakfast or brunch go to "Z-Tejas"....there are no finer places to eat in austin of you dont want the finest Tex Mex at "Chuy's" on barton springs

Some of these have been posted before... but here we go...
Z Tejas
County Line (more BBQ)
Moonshine
Mars
Musashino Sushi Dukoro
Driskill Grill (Usually voted the top restaurant in Austin by austin360.com)
La Traviata (on congress.... really a cool place)
Finn & Porter
Raoaring Fork
Sullivan's
Kenichi
Malaga (cool win bare)
Saba (next to Malaga.... great appetizers)
Uncorked (another cool wine bar with a great view of down town, just East of 35 on 7th)
I've still never made to Eddie V.'s ....
Tell me what your looking for and I can give you specific choices.... If I ever make it back.
EDIT: A few of those above are casual... some more on the causal end.
Hyde Park Grill
Shady Grove
Hula Hut
Polvo's
Oh, and can't forget
Guero's
El Sol y La Luna*
* excellent breakfasts.
And if you are going to take high powered folks to breakfast and you are contemplating Kerbey Lane... only take them to the original location, the rest look like diners... which isn't a bad thing, but you know.
I still love going to Taco Deli myself... but wouldn't recommend it for out of towners you are trying to impress with the look of a location.
EDIT:
An you know I am a pho fan... so I've got some of those up my sleeve.
Also, earlier recommendations on this thread that I haven't mentioned are great, like Fonda San Miquel (haven't been there), and don't know if it has been mentioned, Clay Pit for Indian cuisine.

Though, I must really support La Traviata... it really reminded me of being on the Hill in STL. And to boot, it's address is 314.
