Pittman did show some flashes this year. He seems like a guy that can contribute, but its just so hard to tell at this stage. We seem to just have a lot of bodies without any real quality depth. Frazier will start the minute he arrives on campus and then its a toss-up between Pittman, Thomas, Dollens, Huahalu. Other than Pittman I don't know that any of those guys can be counted on to play at a high level consistently.

I agree with a lot of what you say.

The description I've heard about Pittman - a description attributed to someone on the coaching staff - is that he's extraordinarily strong and one of those kids who doesn't know how to slow down ... the proverbial "non-stop motor" kid. They also said he's pretty smart, and lacks only practice/experience and polish on his technique. I gather they're even OK with the fact that he's just 6-1, because they seem to think his combination of strength and quickness will overcome any shortcomings that stem from a lack of height.

I sure hope you're right about Frazier. I just worry about anyone who reportedly has had back issues in the past, and we all know that a JUCO pedigree is nice, but doesn't necessarily ensure D-I success. But again ... hope you're right.

Either that or we run some 3-3-5 sets. Charlie Strong ran a lot of that defense while he was at SC because they couldn't build any depth at DT

which 5 db's do you feel comfortable throwing out on the field?

i'm not sure how i feel about the 3-3-5. the only two programs that i know still run the 3-3-5 are tulsa and WVU, and neither of those schools are known for their defense...

TCU runs the 4-2-5 pretty similar

i actually prefer the 4-2-5. considering the size and speed of todays players, i think it gives you a lot more options in recruiting "athletes."

I hadn't considered that some of the offensive people will likely switch over when I first glanced at the list. But I still would like to see them pick up a nice chunk of more defensive guys.

Anyone remember how many of the redshirt/greyshirt guys from last year were defensive guys? That could make a difference as well. (Although being that this is JJ's first real recruiting class, you would think they wouldn't be solely relying on last year's pick ups.)
