Yes Robert Marve, though he is fighting the stipulations on the release. How strict can you be on the release? Could you theoretically only release a kid to like 2 schools?

TCU board said, he is not coming to TCU.

DMN College blog from two days ago:

If I were SMU coach June Jones, I'd be trying to get McNeal to join the Ponies. His speed and athleticism would be a good fit for Jones' offense, whether he's running the ball or catching it in the open field.

It sounds like our coaches would be insane not to go after this guy - let's get it done!

TCU board did not say that. TCU board says that TCU has not offered this kid a scholarship yet and might not offer at all.

FYI, Marve's final two choices for schools were Miami and Hawaii. JJ recruited Marve hard and might have got him to Hawaii, but it was just too far away from home for Marve (from the Miami area if I remember correctly). So, there is a relationship there already, but I thought I read that Marve was expected to go to one of 3 schools and I didn't see SMU on that list.

It may be that JJ was honest with Marve and said right now BLM is his quarterback and he could not guarantee him a starting slot in the future. And Marve may look for greener pastures where he might see the field. If I were a passing QB, I would be checking out some of the 1-AA schools where they air it out and I could start next year. That way, I'd be available the following year to any 1-A school who needed a starting QB due to injury, transfer, coaching change, etc.

if he transferred to 1-AA then he would still have to sit out another year if he wanted to transfer back to 1A. I don't know if I remember a single player ever going 1A--1AA--1A. Its rare because you would end up running out of years to play.

He's coming to SMU:

I saw this coming weeks ago. Surprised our self/appointed recruiting guru/genius Stallion didn't.

What are the odds that the NCAA grants him the waiver to play immediately?

The ncaa has always treated us fairly. So I give it 100%.

Normally I would say there was no chance, but I thought that with Serge also. If we can use the services of Coach Shannon to say that McNeal would have seen extensive action were he to stay at Miami but found it necessary to release him due to his mother's condition, it may fly. This is not a case, at least on the surface, of a kid leaving for lack of playing time. Arkansas appealed on behalf of Ryan Mallett who applied merely because of a coaching change, and the Arkansas staff actually felt they had a chance until the verdict came in.

Wow. Definte proof the model has changed. We never got transfers like this in the past. I hope to see more transfers like this. This is exciting news. I am sure this player will make an immediate impact.
