while clearly I'm not saying that Hunt will go on to be an NFL player, I'm a big fan of another player from the former Soviet Union, Igor Olshansky. Igor didn't play football until his Jr. year of high school, yet still managed to get a scholarship to Oregon and picked up in the 2nd round (IIRC) of the NFL draft.

Looking on the upside, Hunt appears to have the tools and drive to succeed. Surely there are football related skills that he may not have (I have no idea how well shot-put and discus translate), but conversely, he's not coming in with any bad football habits either. A blank canvas if you will. Hopefully he'll get a red-shirt year out there and we'll have back-doored a solution on the Dline.

You know SMU has tried this at least two other times with World Class Track(Shotput/Discus) guys over the last 25 years or so. Unfortunately, neither kid got on the field. I remember a Robert Weir kid in the 1980s but we had better players back then too. It would help if he had strengths that translated to specific skills-like a 3rd down pass rush specialist. Pretty hard to teach the entire set of skills need to play a position to a kid w/o Football background especially if he hasn't even played high school football.

Michael Carter did ok. Yes I know that he had extensive FB background also.

We had a BB player come out while I was there. He lined up at wide receiver, got one throw over the middle and was hammered. That was his first and last day. But at least he tried.

Sadly ... no.

Why not?

I second Kiki's question.

lol, that's a good point, Shot-Puts and Discus don't hit back!

As a walk on, this kid should be a good risk. Hell, compare him to this guy:

and I'll take Hunt every time.

Margus is the best athlete on Campus.... here I thought Wollman was able to keep the secret? Anyway, Why don't we have a track team? Margus would get between 15- 20 points by himself at nationals..

Brace yourself, an redshirt/years to play question:

He has been on campus since 2007. Is that when his proverbial clock starts? Or does it start this Fall? By the way, he will be 22 years old in July.

I heard about this guy last week, thought it was too crazy to believe. I also heard, he did more reps with 225lb's, than anyone else on the team. At 6'7 270, and runs a 4.6, just point at the qb and say, "go crush that guy!"

Ok, so IF he goes on to meet with success on the field, does this mean we can call him "The Waterboy?"
