DMN COVERAGE

JJ at SMU (and at Hawaii) has finite resources in respect to talent and depth at all positions. Why risk injury in the spring? The coaching staff has to teach and develop all the talent in the cubbard. This is not a Top Tier BCS program where you just plug talent into a scheme. I am fine with JJs approach. The players get fundamentals to the point that when they are tired, they will stay fundamentally sounds instead of reverting to bad habits and old ways. The student athletes will consistently get better. Gassers will start in the summer, the players will have to be prepared for that; $.02.

For those of us that read PF, Rivals and Scout, the DMN isn't relevant. But, it is extremely relevant for the casual and potential SMU/College fan. As I mentioned previously, the biggest stakeholders of the morning dailies are the professional sport franchises that have voiced real concern about their decline and what it may mean to tickets sales, etc. Maybe when the DMN does do a story about our teams, we should begin to aplaud them and voice our support for Bobby or whoever they assign to our coverage.

I know we all get most of our pony news from ponyfans, all
I am saying is its nice to have something in the D.M.N.
every now and then.

And I read (at least scan) every SMU story that is published in the paper. And I am glad when there is something to read in the paper since my wife frowns on bringing the laptop into the toilet. But I understand why those stories are not there every single day and I refuse to whine about it until there is something worth reporting like a wnning season. If there still is a paper when that happens, I will want to see more coverage too.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Ah...you married well. She will get you civilized one way or the other.jtstang wrote: And I am glad when there is something to read in the paper since my wife frowns on bringing the laptop into the toilet.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

threads about lack of DMN Coverage are very boring-and I wonder why all of you keep bringing it up reinforcing that we don't get much coverage to "all those recruits reading our boards". Again, if you want a report-have a scrimmage-let the SID release a statement and I guarantee you it will be in the paper. Otherwise, the DMN doesn't do what ponyfans.com or the recruiting services do-ie describe the intricate athletic feats accomplished in 7 on 7 shirts and Skins drills. They don't-you know it -and they don't run stories about 7 on 7 Shirts and Skins drills like that about any other school either. On the other hand a story about a Olympic Junior Track Champion from Estonia might get published because it has a human interest angle.

"hey don't-you know it -and they don't run stories about

Would the Dallas Morning News run a story
like the Tusla paper you quoted today if SMU hired
an assistant coach named Clarence James?
Would that same article about an SMU "outside receivers coach"
being hired have been in the Dallas Morning News?
We both know the answer don't we Stallion?

I actually have to add a caveat to this--when I went to the game on Saturday and we lost I have little interest in reading about it again on Sunday. On those days, I limit myself, if anything at all, to looking at the stats. As you might surmise, I have not read much about SMU on Sundays during football season over the last twenty years.

Sports, Football in particular...SELLs newspapers!
DMN should cover every team in Dallas, including all local High school teams.
People want to read about their local schools....and the sports sections sells more papers than fron page stories!
They should move Sports to section 1 and run a front page story daily on a local athelete
