Nothing official, but the word is that Pope finished up with around 300 yards.

Pope had 301 yards on 25 carries and 5 TDs. A great RB at the Class A Level should run for 12-13 yards per attempt-and I've got to admit he's doing it. I remember Bam Morris averaged 13 yards per attempt. They should dominate. Maybe he can outrush Cauyuga and UT commit Traylon Sheed who is headed to the All Time Texas High School rushing record. So far he has only about 56 carries for 728 yards for just right at 13 yards per carry

Was that a compliment or an optimistic statement?

Crazy, maybe we will win today...

Some additional notes:

-He broke his previous school record of yards in a game. (280 something)
-He didn't play the 4th quarter after the game was out of reach...I think this is something to expect during the season. He's going to get more carries in closer games.
-I mentioned he had 200yds at the half...I think that came on only 12-15 carries but I can't find any support on this besides what I heard.

I bet that kid is damn near unstoppable at a 1A school. I played high school ball at a 2A in East Texas and I can tell you that any kid who has D1A ability stands out like a sore thumb at that classification.

I know its 1A, but if his skill translates to the college level, he could be a great back in our offense. I'm waiting for a Nate Illoa-type bruiser and I bet Pope could be it.

Mt. Enterprise broke open a tight 6-6 halftime to roll in the second half to a 35-15 victory over Big Sandy. No mention of Pope's stats-Grider?

Pope was held to 127 yards on 22 carries and no TDs in a limited boxscore in Mt. Enterprise's victory

They do show him with 2 TD's in the Tyler paper but not a lot more specifics on Pope. I'll check later this morning for some more stats and info.

Well you didn't miss much if you didn't watch the player of the week show. They spent more time on the week 1 guys and just mentioned the week 2 winners. Maybe they'll show more on next weeks episode. I know they did ask the school for film.

Randy Rogers did mention that smu was recruiting him as a linebacker, but I think he's a rb with the possibility of playing lb

Big Sandy played 9 in the box pretty much the whole time Pope was in the game...no big surprise there.

Also, I got word that they should have more on the week two winners on next weeks program for the Ford player of the week.

As far as the LB thing...Pope is offered as a RB. The confusion I think with Rogers is that Mason was the guy that offered. The story goes that he wanted to offer him as a RB but needed to talk to Jones before he could give out offers to offensive guys....Mason evidently has more leeway with defensive player offers. He told Pope's coach that if Jones didn't want him as a RB then he would take him as a LB. That being said, after Jones saw the film on Pope he OK'd Mason's RB offer.

So that's what I've got.
