Thought 6 wins would give us a bowl?
Either way, one game at a time. Great to have two wins, but that will be all we have at years end if we don't stay focused and keep working on improving.

Six wins makes you bowl eligible but we found out a few years ago that is not a sure thing. Personally, I want a bowl game but hope that when we get one we do it with 7or more wins. I hate to see 6-6 teams get into bowls, lose and end their season with a losing record. Again, however, I will take it if they give it.

We beat SFA and a below average UAB and we are talking bowl.? Have any of you been SMU fans for more then a couple of weeks? You are setting yourself up.
Lets just focus on the next game at hand please.

If we win next week then people can maybe talk about a possible bowl. We do have a hard 5 game stretch though starting with TCU. But after that all the games are winnable

Let's pretend. We beat WSU. Then we hit the meat of our schedule. It is a very real possibility that we go 0-5 in that stretch. Now we are 3-5 with 4 games left≥ That means we have to go 3-1 the last third of the season. Does anyone thing we are serious bowl contenders with a losing record after 2/3 of the season? We have to be 7-5 to go bowling.
All this fantasy is predicated on a win over WSU. And that hasn't happen. Win this one and then we can play lets pretend. Until then, bowl talk is too early for us.

I thought we were 4 wins away from bowl eligibility. I thought 6 wins was the number like Mrydel said? Just asking.

I believe Ponyte and I are in the same belief that we want 7 for a bowl.

I want 7 as well but what is needed for us to be bowl eligibile? Again just asking.

Bowl eligible at 6 wins and going bowling at 7 wins are two different things. 6 wins is bowl eligible but not bowling. 7 wins is bowl eligible and going bowling. We win 7, we go bowling. We win 6 and we are at the mercy of the bowls. And I don't think sympathy goes very far when bowls are trying to make money.

I think if we get 6 IMO we go to Hawaii for sure (because I think they want us there). 7 or more we go somewhere else. Anyway let's take care of WSU this week and take one game at a time. Thanks Ponyte. Oh and you too Mrydel (I guess

).

do they still have that rule that all 7 win teams in a conference have to be invited before 6 win teams? I just read an article from 2008 concerning the ACC that says conferences have to accommodate teams with winning records before a 6 win team gets a bid. We won 6 games in 2006 and didn't go.

6 wins = bowl-eligible = trip to Hawaii. Hawaii Bowl has second choice for CUSA this year (after Liberty Bowl, which usually picks the conference champion), and Hawaii wants SMU for the June Jones returns to the Islands angle. It would be a sellout for them.

a bowl can't skip over a team with two more wins to pick one with two less (in other words, couldn't skip a 10-2 team to take an 8-4 team) and can't take any 6-6 team until all 7-5 teams are accounted for.

With the amount of CUSA bowl tie-ins for this year, all 6-6 CUSA teams should be accommodated.
