UH is a commuter school for kids who didn't get into the schools they wanted to go and had to settle for something. Its a joke. Check every credible university ranking source out there.

I enjoyed my five years at UH (three on campus), and Columbia thought enough of my 3.3 GPA to let me in for an MBA.

Good for you tristatecoog. I'm sure there are kids at Texas A&M at Commerce who got into Columbia for their MBA too. On a small enough sample size any school looks like an Ivy League institution.

It's because we are a commuter school and a lot of the alumni are just people who went there for a degree and couldn't care less about giving back and supporting the school. Things are changing however, slowly. My fiance and I both graduated from UH in '08 and we are doing very well for ourselves thanks to the great education we received at the school. Sorry for rambling on, but I am very proud of my school and degree and it upsets me to see people talk down on it like you all constantly do.
Don't worry about, if we could beat you in football every year then they wouldn't poke fun at the school itself. You can only make fun of things that you succeed at.......hopefully next year we will be making fun of your football team and not weak academic smack talk.

There are a lot of people who have had success with a UH degree, not just a few random cases. A key factor is the resources that one has. SMU grads typically have a lot of $$ to give them a strong start after graduation.
My roommate went to Michigan Med School (his home state school) and got into Harvard. Granted, the variability is much higher at UH than SMU. However, the UH Honors College is a gem (1200 students) with stats comparable to Trinity.

Thanks. Also to the person that said its a commuter school for people that can't get into any other university, get your facts straight. I had my bags packed and ready to go to UT on a partial academic scholarship (in hindsight thank God I didn't) but my father passed away the 2nd semester of my senior year in HS and I wanted to stay at home a couple years with my mother then transfer to UT afterward. After my first year at UH I was convinced I didn't want to go anywhere else.

Drool.
-How do you get a University of Houston grad off of your front porch?
Pay him for the pizza.

Get more cement.

A visitor.
-It was reported that Houston head football coach Kevin Sumlin will only be dressing twenty players for the SMU game. The rest of the players will have to get dressed by themselves.

I just wish people were more honest with themselves....
Houston is not a very good school...I am sure there are exceptions just as any place, but the overall stats conclude that it is a lower tier university, with an easy admissions process...
avg SAT 1060
Avg ACT 21
I don't understand when TCU comes on here talking about how great the academics are there, but hopefully these Houston people are joking...

Nick,
Lets not let facts get in the way of this debate. Clearly yes, you can succeed and be accepted to great graduate programs regardless of where you went and got your undergraduate degree. However, Houston is a fourth tier school that might not be in the top five colleges in its own city.

What's better in Houston? Obviously Rice. Anyone else?

Yes, congratulations, you all win the academic smack. Just keep in mind you can't compare apples to oranges. You all are a private university with tuition fees exceeding 30K a year, and a student to faculty ratio of probably less than 15:1. I'd expect you to have superior academics. Once again, congrats!

Just figured they have four other community colleges close by.

You take non-qualifiers and convicts on your football team, I'd expect you to have a superior team...once again, congrats....I don't think it will be that long until we are better than you on both ends...
