I think it would be even better for all of you that thought Cowpoke and Maybell should represent SMU to buy season tickets to the equestrian team schedule so you can watch and be inspired by "Mustangs leading the team onto the field"

That would do more for the success of the team than any mascot, traditional or non-traditional.
Rest assured Coach Jones feels no need to "save face," and it doesn't have a thing to do with his salary. When he wins more games than he loses and starts taking the Ponies to bowl games on a regular basis, he could run a Tibetan tree squirrel (I have no idea, either) out there, and we'll still hail him as a savior ... as we should.
