I don't get the point of running it!
Look at Shawnbrey's yards per carry in the standard offense... I see no reason to change that!
The direct snap didn't seem to provide any value against UTEP.
I guess we can keep it in our back pocket, and if Marshall is stopping our running game, then we can pull this out. otherwise, I'm unimpressed.

guess you missed the coaches discussion at the weekly luncheon. Too bad I cannot let you in on it.

I dont see the need to run it either. In my opinion if June would have ran more early in the game it would not have been that close. he was averaging 8 to 9 yards a pop.
Re: The Wild Mustang
the "wild mustang" is on film, whether it gained yards or not, its a formation that Marshall has to prepare for. The more formations and looks Jones gives them, the more time Marshall has to game prepare for everything and not focus on the RNS. Similar to showing packages with Smith and not declaring if Bo will start or even play in the game. Jones is keeping the other team "off balances" and sometimes he does it with his interviews, he gets people scratching their heads, and may include the opposing coaches.

Re: The Wild Mustang
I was not at the luncheon so I have no idea what was said but it should be noted that Padron does not leave the field when the formation is used. That, coupled with fast receivers give unlimited possibilities for a little razzle dazzle with end arounds, options, pitch to Padron and pass, etc. This offense is still very young and we have a relative newborn running it. I for one am excited as to how much more there will be in the offensive arsenal in the years to come.

Re: The Wild Mustang
I like it, even if it wasn't too effective. The more wrinkles in our offense, the better. It's one more thing to practice against.
Having Padron run the option from under center in the red zone was new too. I hadn't seen it all year and, I imagine, neither had UTEP on our film.
The more different looks we can throw at defenses, the better.

mustangbill67 wrote:Wild Mustang is perfect. Mustang is the SMU name for its athletic teams and historically the name came from Wild Mustang. Seems that giving other teams something new to defense, gives them less time to work on defensing the multiple plays and passing patterns of the Run and Shoot. Just guessing. More is better with the offense as long as the players are on board.
Wild Mustang = Wild Wild Horse.
Mustang would be more appropriate

The Marshall coach called it the "Racehorse" in his press conference. Not sure where he got that from.
