You want to point out the put down? I said he was a great athlete.

OK, maybe I read too much into it or added context from a lot of baggage on this site but...
Although Willis was a great athlete - Padron is a great QB
Sounds a lot like:
Willis was a great athlete BUT...

Interesting that Padron is #1 in the nation in yards per attempt at 9.6.

RedStar wrote:Padron looks great. June's had a history of good QB's, but rarely have any of them had the mechanics Padron has. You can tell he had good coaching at Southlake Carroll. He looked like a seasoned vet the other night. Only a few passes were off the mark. With the coaching he's getting now, mixed with the sound fundamentals he's already got, he could put up Case Keenum type numbers in a few years and be a serious Heisman contender. I'm looking forward to seeing him play the next few seasons.
In high school, he didn't get enough playing time to learn bad habits

Reminds me a little bit of Chuck Hixson, mature beyond his years and very cool....

Let's be careful of the Heisman talk, I remember 2006 when we all thought Willis was the next coming. Kyle is great but young. Lets get through his sophmore year.
Had SMU hired Paul Johnson, we might be talking about JW getting the Heisman right now. I feel for the kid, got mixed up in the wrong scheme. Wrong time. If there was an NFL team out there that played to JW strengths, they could probably get him cheap. Hope he is doing well. Also hope, if there is a big time oil guy out in Dallas or on PF, they seek him out. This kid deserves a good life. I know $ does not guarantee it, but it helps.

I can't wait to see just how good this young man can be over the next several years after working with JJ & Co. He already has learned alot about this offense and proved he has excellent ability.

There is no such thing as an NFL team that plays to his strengths - they dont run the veer in the NFL. He was a good athlete - and you can appreciate his toughness - but we dont need to pretend he was ever any kind of pro material - that just is not realistic.

If you listened to the June interview by the Honolulu Advertiser linked in another thread you know June mentioned Kyle, Bo, the New Mexico QB and the incoming freshman QB as possibles for next year. He is expecting competition for the position and has not decided that Kyle will be his guy for the next three years. Of course, that was before Thursday. No question Kyle goes into the spring with the lead in that race.

Jones always says there will be competition. I bet if we had another game after Nevada he'd still say there was a chance BLM could start. Everything JJ says is coach-speak and meaningless.

with all the accolades coming his way, sure hope Padron can keep his head straight and continue to improve as he and this team matures. I'm confident that JJ will bring in some new young stud every year to keep the starter (and his backup) grounded. Would sure love to see SMU become the new "Quarterback U"
