Can't address something that doesn't exist. NCAA rules allow for scholarship money to be used for HS early grads, but no actual signing until Feb.

It said he was enrolling...where did it say his scholarship was starting?

This isn't the first time we have had a player come in early...I'm just curious as to how that works.

PK you are confusing a Early enroller(a 1/2 year early) with a grayshirt ( a 1/2 year late). He definitely can receive financial aid early as long as he graduates. Unless you actually believe that a son of a high school football Coach is going to shell out $25,000 so his son can get a head start. Florida is listing 8 players who have already signed letters of Intent who are in 2009 Class. Texas has been doing it for years. Grayshirts can not practice with team-early enrollers can.

early enrollees are usually guys you want in for spring practice and expect they can compete for playing time if not a starting position. Hope the big guy has muscled up and is ready to help at the NG spot right away in 2010

No, I am not confused (any more than usual), just trying to understand how the early enrollment and scholarship deal works. If I understand what you are saying about the Florida early signers, it means Florida had 8 slots available in the 2009 class due to kids leaving the team or becoming ineligible thus making the those slots available to be filled under the allotment for 2009...right? So then our team evidently had at least one 2009 slot open up thus enabling the early signing. Is this correct? I would then assume that had we signed a JUCO that open slot possibly would not have been available...correct? The confusing thing is the media reports of commitments always state "The earliest a recruit can sign a LOC is February X, 2010."

Basically, it doesn't matter how many players have signed on any date other than reporting date or speaking generally because I don't know the exact date-August 1. You could sign 45 players as long as no more than 25 show up on that August 1. You can push players forward or backwards with mid term transfers, grayshirts and early enrollers as long as for any one year period counted on August 1 you don't have more than 25. The guys who fail to qualify or don't show up don't count on that 25 man list. I'm not sure how many were pushed forward or backwards in recent recruiting classes so I can't tell you specifically how many we might have-but the Coaches have make reports to the NCAA on this/

Didn't they put a limit on total you can sign after last year when Troy signed something like 120 players?

The SEC put a limit of 29 but that was only that conference and not the entire NCAA.

When Evan Huahulu trransferred in December it opened upa a slot.

And yes the school can elect to use his scholly against either the 2009 or 2010 class, but moot if you are limited by the 85 limit.

He will be a Mustang when he enrolls and attends classes on January 19, no longer a recruit, he is on campus whether a LOI is signed or not. It's the recruits that are in HS and haven't signed a NLI that ponyfans got to hold their breath on.

"LOI"...thanks, I knew "LOC" didn't look right, but I was having a momentary brain fart and couldn't come up with the right stuff.
