Never a problem with proven DB's or players at any position.
How much depth do we have with the D linemen compared to DB's? It's been out of balance for a year.
I'm all for the Jeremy Hall's of the world that can come in and have the chance to play at DB. Outside of Hall, none of the incoming DB's are as heralded as Jay Scott was last year. And Jay will likely be behind Ryan Smith on the chart after spring. Also, none of the DB's coming in are as big as Scott or Smith. From being in Houston, we have seen how solid these two guys will be when they are on the field.
Corner is pretty solid for us as well.
I've been pretty clear about getting the D linemen (and the OL as well) before we add in more DB's.
I'm all for getting the best at every position if we can. But the lack of depth on the line (mostly on the OL) is a contributing factor on why we will not have a spring game this year.

I'm talking about Dad of walkon. If June was entirely happy with what he had at DB he wouldn't keep adding players at DB

OK assuming for the sake of argument that Jay Scott and Ryan Smith are solid-and the others aren't-then that's why he wants more DBs. YOU DON'T RECRUIT STARTERS-you recruit 85 players 4 deep at a position. Its been constant annoyance over the years to hear ponyfans saying we are solid at a position because we have two good starters. You don't really get what recruiting is all about if you don't understand that its about stackin' em deep at every position with quality recruits so when the starter joins a rrock band, or gets homesick or is arrested you replace him with quality. That's what quality football programs do-4 deep at every position.
Everybody knows that we have a deep hole in our recruiting class(es) at NG-and we are struggling to find the right guys in the Defensive Line-but to say that we should fill up with projects ain't really going to be the answer either.

No-there another kid from Louisiana
but another point is that there may be kids, both present players and recruits, every poster on this board is counting on but the Coaches know is really an academic risk who may not be around in August.

Lets also not get antsy as the coaches have said all along that this year they are after athletes specifically and may play around 15 of these guys as True Frosh ( DB's, Wr's and especially Special Teams as that was where we needed help this year) and NEXT year they go after positions specifically.
We were ahead of schedule this year and got some luck and the real SMU Championship team will not even be next year, it is the 2011 year that we will be in the saddle with maturity and depth. I wouldn't expect the record to be much better than this year and hope we get some luck again.

I would have to say Acker's highlights are better than a lot of the guys we have signed already. Surprised the Pac-10 isn't all over him. If we get him (which I think we will), I think he'd be one of our best commitments. I'm not sure what position they would make him, but it would sure be fun to watch him with the ball in his hands on offense or in the return game.

CB Chris Parks out of Conroe is suppose to compete right away as well.

Agreed, we have to stockpile talent (not projects). If we don't were are in trouble in the long term and possibly the short term.
