Please be patient with the WDNWHA Committee. Not only are we very busy the last week of recruiting, but we have been asked to spend some extra time looking at the basketball group this year. We could not rule on Mr. Canyon until we heard from the WITHAWGTPH Committee. That of course is the behind the scenes Where In The He!! Are We Going To Play Him Committee.

Agreed - - It's sad that one has to go to killerfrogs.com for all of the latest news on the 2 SMU decommits. There is more relevent info over there about both of them than in the mysterious "find out by joining scout or rivals" posts over here.
Of all of the recruits we had, Canyon was the one I found most perplexing. No one on this board could really isolate where they thought he would end up playing.
If it took him this long that he wasn't going to play quarterback here -- and we're less than a week from signing day -- it would appear that he wasn't very diligent trying to sort out where he wanted to go until somebody whispered in his ear he could play QB.
I just wonder how solid of a student he was as well, if the coaches knew that and kind of talked him into de-committing because they realized they didn't want him either.
Oh, and I'm still not going to subscribe to Scout or Rivals. I like to follow recruiting. But I don't want to be married to it either.

Truer words cannot be said. I agree we need to support those sites, but IMO there's a difference between posting a name for the sakes of fan blog conversation and discussing lets say an interview or very specific information. Let's not devalue ponyfans and make it obsolete by having skewed reverance to a pay site.

It's because they take all their info from the TCU rivals site and post the premium stuff all the time. They get names from the premium info then post it public regarding the subject and devalue the the pay site. It's done on purpose and encouraged to underminte as well as stop traffic to the pay sites. Killer Frogs also is not a totally free site and certain areas they do charge.

I think this is really getting stupid and small time that all of the subscribers are going to their pay sites, getting their "hot and bothered information" and coming over to the recruiting board here to say "We know something that you don't. And if you want to know, then you pay for it.''
And I so love it when the posters talk amongst themselves in round about ways to try and tease people into subscribing. Screw that!
I got news for you guys: Some of us just don't find the value of paying $10 a month for information that we'll be a day or two or hours behind on. So we don't know as fast you guys? Big freaking deal.
I'll use the $10 for the two margaritas I'm having tonight. I consider more value in that than whether or not some trumped-up 18-year-old is going here or there or anywhere or how his junior day at Our Lady of the Vineyard University turned out. Are you kidding?
Balderdash!
Some of you need to re-read that Pat Forde column that I recently posted and get a sense of reality.
I agree with the General that Canyon is one of the odder stories of this recruiting season. As I recall, he was one of our earliest commits. Didn't have many (or any) other offers. Since he signed, I haven't seen much discussion about him at all. Now he's gone. Oh well. Can't say I know much more about him today than I did on the day he committed.
Murphy's a little weird too. Why commit to a school and then de-commit 48 hours later? I respect his desire to go to TCU. But why didn't he just commit to them in the first place?
I'm still getting used to this whole concept of getting commits from prospects who actually have options. I guess losing a few and gaining a few in the waning hours is just part of the process when you are recruiting players that other schools actually want.

The recruiting sites help more than that General. It guess some should not post anyhting until it is public. I guess that woudl fix the problem. Heck, I don't know but I do know we need those recruiting sites for more than just news. Also General, didn't you do some work for the Baylor Rivals site at one time?
