St Johns hired Lavin fyi...
St. John's has hired ESPN analyst and former UCLA coach Steve Lavin to succeed Norm Roberts, a school spokesman said Tuesday.
Lavin has been with ESPN the past six years after being fired at UCLA in 2003. He coached the Bruins to the NCAA tournament six times in seven seasons, including one Elite Eight appearance and five trips to the Sweet 16. He inherits a team that could return 10 seniors for 2010-11.
St. John's has been searching for a big-name hire to increase the team's profile in the New York media market. The university made an overture to Florida's Billy Donovan and a formal offer to Georgia Tech's Paul Hewitt, who declined.
The Red Storm also interviewed former Boston college coach Al Skinner and former Siena coach Fran McCaffery, who took the Iowa job, and were interested in talking to Rhode Island's Jim Baron.
St. John's hasn't been to the NCAA tournament since 2002. The Red Storm has appeared in the NIT twice since that appearance, including earlier this month under Roberts.
This season, St. John's finished 17-16 overall and 6-12 in the Big East. After knocking off UConn and nearly upsetting Marquette in the Big East tournament, the Red Storm lost in the first round of the NIT at Memphis.
Coincidentally, the Red Storm has a home-and-home series signed for next season against UCLA, Lavin's former team.

Re: This made me laugh
Just this past weekend, one of the best PG recruits out there, committed to George Mason over SMU. Instead of being proactive as a fan base, we just sit here and cry about a team that could easily have a winning season next year or better. Meanwhile, the kids formspring is overrun by Mason & Siena fans, basically telling the kid to go to their school. How they have fan support etc. Over on the Mason message board, a 20 plus page thread is dedicated to the kid. So many instances where this program could use fan support, instead they get the same post over & over. We get it, Doh is flailing. Doesn't change the fact that we need a PG now, for a team that has pretty good personnel next year for this league.
Just saw this kid's formspring and it raises questions regarding recruiting violations to me. Aren't people who are university boosters supposed to avoid contact with recruits unless the contact is purely coincidental?

formspring is secondary violation central, but it's new media and mostly anonymous, so it's a loophole for now. I'm not advocating formspring contact, just making the point that we are underrepresented. Just another reason this is a tough job

NCAA just let Tim Floyd take a good job again. Meanwhile, Marshall is going to interview Todd Bozeman, I've heard. That's a blockbuster hire imo, but DAMN, CUSA is filthy. Anyway, I'm sure they'll address formspring, mostly b/c it's a mole hill they might be able to tackle. Meanwhile, someone will hire Reggie Theus

I've heard the same about Bozeman but interestingly, this article doesn't mention him. http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/x ... or-Hamrick

I believe you were that same guy for PB for a LONG TIME.

lol, I'm not even pro-Doh. I just believe this is a very difficult position that doesn't need to fire another coach early. He'll either get it done, or he'll get fired, what's the debate? I'd rather talk personnel and recruiting

Forrest, Tom, Mike Cavan and Phil "didn't have a chance to win...The system was not set up to win. I really think I'm the only Coach since the Death Penalty that's been given an opportunity to truly be on a level playing field" Coach June Jones
ummmm ponydoh can defend it all he wants but the same system is set across the board... he will defend it with some nonsense argument which stallion has put to rest a number of times. like the post above this one... thats why i dont read them because they're garbage, just like doh's coaching!

good read. It amazes me the same thing. It's a coach war out there, you have to go after them.
