Gauging the student body's opinion is always a hard thing, but I believe there is more than a small segment of the student population who would be absolutely p****ed if the geldings' role is expanded.

as long as he keeps improving the program!
Do you wait for opportunities to suck June off?
Just curious as to why you never post unless someone points out a JJ mistake....
I love JJ, although I thought we would be recruiting better, but these horses suck and they aren't mascots to me....they are a terrible idea...I better see Peruna a lot more than them or I will be pissed....
Yeah, if June makes another mistake, I might not watch the next Bowl game hide tanning! That will really show'em!

I love how JJ is so hell bent on these stupid horses. Awesome that they need to be relaunched after only half a season. Please just rename them Alpo and Glue Stick and be done with it.
Seriously though, is there a practical reason for starting the walk at Moody and not Perkins or some other spot that gets the team down the 'Vard? I mean other than that the geldings are skittish and prone to take out a 5 yo cheerleader? I like the idea of the walk but Padron could be Tebow II and the Hawaii Bowl could have been a BCS game and you wouldn't be able to blast people out of the tailgate.

The player walk starts at the Mustangs statue because that is where the team is dropped off by the buses coming from the Hotel.
Want to know the real reasons JJ is pushing the horses involvement hard. The players asked for normal sized horses and have been since the late 60's and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ from guess who to fund some real needs for the football program.
Don't have to jump all over JJ on this as he has to do whatever he can to raise money for the program and he was smart enough to find this opening. Peruna isn't going away; this is just an add on.

Amen...this group can be the biggest bunch of complainers sometimes.
If I told you three years ago that we would win a bowl game on ESPN 45-10, tie for C-USA West Champions, and be in the talk for possible BCS busters, and all we had to do was have two real horses on our sidelines along with Peruna....would you have agreed to that?
My guess is you would've. Freakin babies.

No. We can win without diminishing 80-year-old traditions and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

Fellows in case you didn't know, June Sheldon Jones is the head coach at Southern Methodist University and he as well as the players like the full size horses as a compliment to the school mascot Peruna.

Not that anyone can recall anything else that might be considered good about the Bennett days, but the players used to attend chapel at Perkins before games. The band and Peruna escorted them to the stadium with a number of fans joining in or just cheering along the way. I think if JJ wants student support prior to game time, he's going to have to go where the students are which is the 'vard.

The Pickens' donated money to the program?????
Once I see their names in the mustang club listings under thoroughbred, then I will agree the horses were worth something....

Coaches come and coaches go. The only continuity that carries over year to year are the traditions. Every new coach seems to feel obligated to screw with the uniforms. When it comes to traditions and mascots, I not sure it is proper for the coach or the team to have control over that. I really find it hard to believe that the players, with all the things on their plate to do, are running up to the coach complaining that they want full size horses instead of Peruna...unless at a team meeting it is suggested by the coach that "there may be an option...what do you think?"
Yes I am damn glad we are getting a better team and going to bowl games, but the Pony Express teams didn't seem to have any problems winning without full size horses on the field...so what's different now? It is about how good your team is not what your mascot is or looks like. Geez, if that were not the case, TCU would never win a game.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
