Stallion, I think there are NCAA rules that now prohibit Peruna (or other mascots) from running across the field after scores - not that it has been an issue this year, of course. The new wave seems to be someone or several someones running the length of the field with a flag or flags with the schools' symbol, initials, etc. on it/them. I know that always gets me going.

I think that is a WAC rule.... last year at OSU their mascot ran all over the field after every touchdown....
I say if we score on Rice, just run him anyway, I doubt anyone would complain.


(on a side note, does any one else have the problem where when the ad up top changes your curser diappears and you have to click in the message box to keep typing? very annoying...[click]...)

It is an NCAA rule, it is just up to the officials how strictly it is enforced. At the NC State game a few years ago, the refs didn't want us to run with him at all. They told us that if they did they were going to kick us off the field. It seems like most of the time when you ask they say NO!

What about running him along the side of the field? Everyone could still see him...but you wouldn't technically be violating the rule right?

Or you could just run him up in the stands. It's not like there are tons of people up there to get in his way.

You are right, I don't think that would violate the rule, but it would be awfully difficult to run between the bench and the wall without hitting someone, something or tripping over all that crap both teams take onto the field with them.

I think we should make the Mustang Maniac our mascont.

Its a WAC rule and WAC rules governed all games played at SMU (except that a non-conference opponant could use its conference football when on offense). I hope CUSA has no rule on this or even better a Mustang friendly rule. I hope that Copeland will discuss that when CUSA AD's meet to discuss football rules. Tell them it is a long historical tradition which we would like to bring back. If they know Peruna will visit them, it might actually be a selling point to their games.
