It isn't just Apple products. All cell phones have something called RFID, radio frequency id, which would allow anyone anywhere in the world to find out where you are, if he/she so decided. RFIDs are the size of the tip of a needle and can be placed in anything, even clothing labels. Manufacturers started developing and using them for inventory purposes.

The general public is not on line with this in regards to your GPS position info stream. You would have to have a court order, or CIA, FBI to stream, or be an employee with AT&T with clearance. Apple has fake apps but nada to the non hacked world.
