here nor there, the issue is that Turner assured us admissions had been reworked to where if players were able to gain admission per the NCAA standards, they would gain admission into SMU. Stallion posted the clip from the JJ hiring press conference on the recruiting page.

I understand. ....ouch....not good. A mans word should be good.....evidently not.
He also raised money to get us an Education Department which will be the launching point for future PE majors (and some Mrs. candidates, but I digress). He has a tough job to keep the alums happy and keep the faculty happy. Its a tightrope walk. The faculty would prefer us to be Oberlin. The alums would prefer us to be UT. The students just want to graduate with a marketable degree.
We need to seriously need to make a distinction between what Turner is directed to do, and what Turner chooses to do on his own. Turner was directed to raise funding for the Education school. He didn't sit back and go "gee, I think I'll raise money for an education department so we can have a PE major".

I heard the same thing, Plano.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Football fueled more controversy. Shortly after Dr. Turner arrived, the NCAA put Ole Miss on probation for earlier recruiting violations. Dr. Turner fired the longtime football coach when the NCAA lodged a new round of recruiting violations in 1993. Fans booed him at games.
That shows an opportunity for him to associate big-time football with cheating at two stops, Ole Miss and Switzer-era OU. For a man from a small Bible college in Lubbottock, it isn't a leap for him to think that supporting June would be to invite cheating and ruin, especially with SMU's history.
That makes NO stops where big-time football is present without recruiting violations and cheating. Quite likely he cannot separate winning DIA football from cheating and corruption.
I think the College Republicans don't like him either. Didn't he shut them down once? The thread title reminds me of a very old and bad joke. What do you say to a nurse who enters your room at the hospital? Friend or enema?

Agreed.
