Moreland is one of the top outside linebacker prospects of the 2011 class.
He's a physical and aggressive player who lives in opponents' backfields and brings constant pressure on quarterbacks and ball carriers.
As a junior in 2009, he registered 95 tackles and 21 sacks with nearly half of his total tackles going for a loss. He was named All-League Defensive MVP, All-CIF, and L.A. Wave Player of the Year.
Moreland has been a hot commodity since last season and should only become more popular as he begins competing in camps over the next few months.
He has over 11 offers at the moment, but lists his top five schools as UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, and Arizona.
Devon Moreland
The next two players that are being profiled, unfortunately for Trojan fans, appear to be heading to their crosstown rivals UCLA.
Devon Moreland, a fast rising player at a position of need, linebacker, is 6′3″, 215 lbs. and has a ton of potential.
Though coveted by many programs, Moreland, as suggested, lists UCLA as "high" on his interest list.
CommentsWeird Commitment
Devon Moreland, one of the top OLB's in the country from California had offers from USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, ASU, Washington. He committed to SMU.
Damn... wonder what June Jones told that kid
As if being on the Death Penalty once wasn't enough
Hot rich women, powerful wealthy alumni, living in the Dallas Metroplex, great academics and an improving team.
SMU has a lot to sell to recruits.
Per Capita, hot women with large trust funds are probably higher at SMU.
Also playing time and religion may play a factor.
SMU is a great school, can't knock any kid for going there.
SMU is an excellent school with absurdly hot women. Kid is prolly smart enough to know that he won't be one of the tiny fraction of players that makes a good living playing football.
evon Moreland’s fledgling boxing career will have to be put on hold for the time being, if not forever.
...
Moreland, whose interest in sports was limited to time spent in the gym boxing, is now drawing attention from college recruiters for his gridiron skills. Many came to Salesian games to scout senior prospects, only to be drawn to the unknown defensive end.
SMU fans have reason to celebrate tonight. SMU has landed a big fish on Wednesday in the form of four-star outside linebacker Devon Moreland of Los Angeles. Fresh off a big bowl win last season, the Mustangs are beginning to flex some serious muscle on the recruiting scene and the rest of Scout.com is taking notice

Can't hurt to claim a Texas Top 50(or so) and California Top 20. Hopefully will give confidence to others to jump on board
I am enjoying the [deleted] at reading the comments from USC, LSU, etc about him committing to us! Way to go coach KlemmOne of the top linebackers in state with offers from pretty much the entire PAC-10, commited to SMU?
Weird
They went old school and paid him like they used to.
He heard SMU alum Craig (Va)James saying the Pac is weak.
Wont last
Wasn't he supposed to be a bRuin lean? If so that's hilarious and I hope he sticks to his commitment.
Lets just say the female talent at that school is out of this world.
Then this is just pure comedy. Worse than when Tab Perry picked Boise St over them.
he must love June Jones

June Jones has resurrected the SMU program since he took over as the team’s head coach two years ago, and the addition of LB Devon Moreland from Bishop Mora Salesian in California indicates the headway he’s made on the recruiting trail. According to Scout.com, Moreland, who is ranked four-stars, committed to the Mustangs on Thursday. You can read more about Moreland’s decision to go east to SMU at Poneystampeed.com, which is a subscription based site at Scout.com. Moreland also had offers from schools like USC, UCLA and Oregon.
