I love what Klemm is doing, but at this point in time, I think there are two other guys on the staff I'd rather have considered as future head coach.

I agree that there are/will be multiple reasonable options when that time comes. JJ won't leave the program in the lurch, unless his departure is of the 'untimely' sort. Even then, he'll provide good direction (remember, even as he left Hawaii, he gave them a working list of 5 or 6 names that had solid experience).
I sort of recall that about 1 1/2 years ago, there was a similar call to name Reinebold as head-coach-in-waiting. JJ has always attracted outstanding men and coaches to work alongside him. I don't think there is much to worry about, except (as NickSMU17 said) to keep the outside forces working with JJ and not against him.

Once Again, everyone is missing the point...you have to solidify Klemm for awhile...after what he is oing in Cali this year...every Pac 10 school will be going after him...you seel him on his future at SMU and learning from JJ how to take over...

I don't think so (but, we may just have a difference of opinion). but, Klemm strikes me as the McKnight and Reinebold mold -- they are stuck to JJ as a matter of personal loyalty, not career advancement. it's interesting that despite his Super Bowl success, Klemm sought out his old college coach and is now working for him. I could be wrong, but I don''t think there should be a great fear of him bolting. I think, he knows he is learning from someone who is pretty unique.

I have heard he is the biggest fly risk of the staff...

I doubt any of us would hand over the keys to a medium to large corporation to someone with such limited experience, no matter how bright the potential.

Agreed.

This happened with our President - and I don't mean Turner.

I agree that it's premature to name him head-coach-in-waiting, but California has some extraordinary players, and if his connections out there are getting stud players to come to SMU - and it appears that is the case - those connections might be even more valuable to our team than his coaching ability.

lets just concentrate on keeping jones the head coach.....everything else will work out. If Jones is happy, we will be happy.

This is the key. Pretty sure Jones has already addressed what he wants for his assistants. Hopefully that will be provided and quickly if it has not already been done.

IMHO JJ has built a great team of assistants. We need to keep all of them.

We have to lock him down. He has the ability to relate with recruits like the other coaches on the staff don't and knows JJ's blocking schemes from college. Gets his guys mean - the O-line was so much meaner last year than in 08 and it's because of Klemm.....

If we don't lock him down a S.E.C. or PAC-10 school will scoop him up. FSU picked up Vic...

He’s also a good looking charismatic man, but with legs as skinny as his, I seriously doubt his ability to coach or play football

Klemm, has been a proven winner, it should come as no surprise that he's still taken hs talents to the SMU Campus. Winners have those that would like to become winners, "Follow". This is what make Klemm so "Great".
