Honeslty I don't want to think about what might have happened if June didn't come here. Maybe I'm a debbie downer but if we'd have hired Larry Coker or some retread like that I think we'd have had two or three more 3-9 seasons and attendance would be even worse than it is now. At that point you have to seriously consider the merits of keeping the product going. As it is, the program is in the best shape its been in 25 years, money is starting to pour in, we have NFL caliber coaches, we are recruiting legitimate D1 level athletes, and the buzz around the program is really picking up steam. If we can put together a 9 or 10 win season combined w/ a CUSA title....WATCH OUT.
All of this is b/c Steve Orsini was able to convince June Jones to come here.
Steve is the best AD we have had and I have seen them all from Matty Bell forward. He is a business man, CPA,and knows how to run a dept. He reduced the athletic dept's deficit from last year to this year by several million dollars( hear that Admin and Faculty) and has us winning in football and going to Bowl games. No one has done those things in over 25 years. He had to hire Matt before he even got here and had no time to really conduct much of a search and was strapped with all the baggage that was in place. We have a long way to go in many areas,i.e. conference realignment, new BB coach, facilities, attendance, marketing, and probably most importantly, having to deal with the Administration. I am sure Steve ruffles some feathers at Perkins but who else have we ever had that would push for athletics. He has a passion for us which is amazing in itself and he fights the battles. I sleep very well knowing he is in the fox hole with us.

Completely agree. Hope he resigns, and soon.
Why do you want him to resign? I think he's done a great job and shouldn't resign unless he wants to.
Right. Eric Dickerson made the deal happen, kept it under wraps for 71 days, and took all the slings and arrows that people, and the press, could throw his way during that period.
Oh, and Eric had the idea of the Circle of Champions and raised all that money in two weeks.
June called Eric, and Eric (bless him dearly) called Steve. It was Steve who made it all happen.
Now that he's actually here and on the payroll, and now that he's built the Crum Center, Steve will, if he has to, do the same thing in B-Ball.
By the way, did you like that video board, new sound system, and the 300K tv show? They didn't just fall out of the sky.

Actually, June made the initial contact with the mob boss through ED saying he wanted the job. Orsini gets credit for getting the funding in place for June's salary and not screwing anything up in the process...and yes we need to keep him.
Now he needs to get the mess in BB cleaned up.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Am I the only one that thinks that Orsini may have been on ponyfans posting as Biggin. I realize he has more important things to do but he had to keep the rumors of Jones from being brought to the forefront and I have wondered if he didn't play the part of Biggin to keep the heat off of the rumor. At least he could have assigned someone in the office to do so. He was downplaying the possibility of Jones as a coach until the moment it came to pass and then he claimed to be the first to know and post that it had occurred.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

Coach Doh used to post on this board. Not about basketball though.
