Panic spreads into the prediction thread?
Ya know, Kate wouldn't panic. She's a pretty cool customer.

Disagree. The last two times we played Navy, they were aided by a monsoon, Bo Levi, and overtime in one or both of the games to get them North of 30 points against us. It's fair to assume we have stockpiled more talent and speed on the defensive side of the ball since our last meetings. In five games this year, Navy has topped 30 points exactly once, in beating Louisiana Tech. Their largest margin of victory is 14, also against La. Tech. What exactly makes you think Navy will rack up that many points and have that large a margin of victory? What exactly is our "reality check" we're supposed to be expecting?
Yes, we're thin on the D side of the ball, just as thin as we've been all year long. The defense is improved, stronger and more athletic than last year, we have a stronger line and line backing corp that puts is in a better position to defend the option. Our secondary is presumably our weakest area, it's also an area that Navy doesn't feast on. Moore is a lock-down corner and Crawford has been improving steadily throughout the year; he's also been burned by some very athletic and talented receivers- see Texas Tech. We have a much more balanced offense this year, Padron has put up +370 yards the last two games, Zach Line is now a credible threat every time he's in the backfield and opponents are 2-9 kicking field goals against us.
Assuming there isn't a blizzard or monsoon, we don't fumble multiples punts inside the 10, where do you get this score from? You can throw out that we've been fumbling punts, which is correctable, or potential TD passes have bounced off opponents' hands, or Padron has "almost thrown a bunch of INT's" but the W/L column shows that we have been getting the job done and winning ball games. The only two games we've lost have been to decidedly more talented teams, one on the road.
I fully expect a competitive game. SMU is more talented athletically. Navy is very disciplined, well coached, and executes its offensive system very well. Thankfully, SMU also has a fine coaching staff itself. I feel like that will be the difference. 20-17 SMU.
Of course, I could be wrong and Jones recognizes that in the end, this game is unimportant to the 2010 team's season goal of winning the conference. Perhaps he plays it conservative, ensures everybody is ready for Houston and healthy, and we come back home 4-3, but 3-0 in conference and ready to plaster UH.

Re: Official SMU-Navy Prediction Thread
My expectations are for the Mustangs to play competitively as they have done in every game this season.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

I agree, but I would also add that the depth on the D-Line might not be as much of a problem this game as we can sub in our undersized back-ups as Navy relies on the quickness and precision of their OL, not massive size. Hopefully our undersized back-up D-linemen will be able to hold their own in this game. One concern is that Navy picks on Hunt due to his lack of experience and presumably football IQ (just because he is still so new to the sport).

SMU wins by 10
Sure Navy's 14th in passing defense but look at these teams passing average - Maryland (102nd), Air Force (115th), Lousy Tech (64th), Wake(116th) and Georgia Southern (NA). Not really high powered passing offenses.
Kyle has a big day with three receivers having 100 yard games.

Re: Official SMU-Navy Prediction Thread
I am watching a replay of the Navy versus Wake Forest game on ESPN3. Wake is moving the ball with a true freshman QB and a vanilla offense. And Navy is getting no pressure on him.
I really like our OL against their DL, and our athletic LBs against their backfield. Unless we give them the win with turnovers or other mistakes, we win this game. This will be the end of the OOC road win drought.
