I am also a former player. I would like to know how a freshman QB with limited time on a D1 field can tell that a defensive lineman with a documented history of serious knee problems was faking as soon as the play ended. It was classless and should be admitted as such. As far as the faking of injuries, I do not know, and you were not on the field so you do not either. Sometime a player does get hurt, or were your players faking when they went down.

You can accuse the faking of injuries all you want. It may even be true. But an athlete on the field doing what he did was absolutely a classless act.

RWcoogs wrote:There is nothing classless to complain when a player is faking an injury. Jones and Todd Graham love to employ this tactic. A couple years back it was so obvious that the DC would point his fingers down when he wanted to make a sub and one of the players would fall down. Jones tried to disguise this a little better this time around. I know a thing or two about this this and know what it looks like when aplayer is truly experiencing a cramp or had an injury to a knee, shoulder etc. I will admit that fans who are tired of this ploy get upset a little too prematurely but it has gone on in the past and certainly did this season. I as a former player would have never accepted faking an injury for any reason and find it appauling a coach would make any of them do so. Just my opinion.
As for Piland he was there and knew it was not real, why not be upset? We could not run three solid plays ina row without a "cramp" breaki between. He is certainly not a classless person. If you guys want to be upset you really should be pointing the finger at Coach Jones for using this practice rather than just playing the game. That is unless you are ok with this strategy.

Were you actually there? There were 2 players that went down that stopped the game that I remember. Ryan Smith, the DB who got his bell run in the 2nd quarter had his helmet taken away for the rest of the 1st half until they could determine he didn't have a concussion. And your fans booed.

I'll agree with you that faking an injury is ridiculous. If that is what occurred with Marquis Frazier, who is the other guy that went down, then shame on us. But what happens if you a-holes boo a player who is seriously hurt?

Maybe the Marshall fans should have booed Patrick Edwards when he only skinned his little knee on that band cart a couple years ago. He was totally faking it, right?

And what about that Rutgers player that went down last weekend with what, a neck cramp?

Serious injuries happen quite often, and you have to automatically assume the worst. One of these days, if not already, your idiot fans are going to boo a player when he is seriously injured. Is that when you guys will finally learn your lesson that you are classless morons?

These are kids playing a sport for college money, which isn't really all that much considering how much their teams bring in to the university in revenue and donations. Give them a freaking break.

I sent an email to several of my friends who are UH alums, who actually have character. I congratulated them on a nice win, and wished them well the rest of the season. But I also took the time to note how moronic your fans were at the game. Not a one of them defended your a-hole fans because they knew they were in the wrong.

Now go sell crazy someplace else!

Another injury that got booed was when Margus got hurt, and ended up sitting out the entyire series as well as the field goal attempt. Yeah, that makes sense - fake an injury and keep that guy out of the field goal block team.

I know it looks like shenanigans sometimes, but the fact is that Frazier is beat up as an undersized NT, and Margus has some leg issues right now.

Preplanned after game parties took their toll on attendance, that's for sure. This may sound strange to the U of H crowd, but the students had more than a 40 of Old E and an old copy of hustler in mind for their homecoming parties.

6 SMU players went down on defense (less than I thought on my first viewing of the game and I think less than last year's game, but more than I'd guess you'd normally see in a game). 1 went down on offense.
Frazier went down twice (The 2nd time Leach said, let's see if he comes back because some teams take dives against UH).
2 players went down on 1 play.
1 player came back the next play.
1 player came back the same play (the play where 2 players went down).
The rest did not come back until the next drive although most of the times a player went down, UH scored within the next 3 plays.
No players went down on a drive where UH got less than 20 yards with the exception of the UH TD drive that started at SMU's 19.
No player went down on any play where UH was stopped for short or no yardage.

None of this indicates conclusively that a player did or did not fake an injury. Just getting the facts out there.

If you are down with an injury you cannot come back until you are out at least one play. So your facts are wrong.

I would be very much in favor of having a player have to sit out until change of possession if play is stopped for an injury. More so for the player's safety than anything else. But it could also cause players to continue play when they should not. One year during my time, I believe it was 1971, the rules were changed where if a player was down with an injury and play had to be stopped, the team with the injured player lost a timeout. It was terrible. When players got hurt, even if knocked out or broken bones, coaches and trainers would run onto the field and drag them quickly to the sideline so as to not lose a timeout. Safety of the players has to come before the speed of the game.
