Re: The constant whining about attendance is a BEATING!
Sir, I would suggest to you that you and I and others are aware that there are many elements that will contribute to increased attendance at games. I thought we all kind of figurred out that marketing the program aggressively was going to go hand-in-hand with this. If you don't think the marketing department is doing its job, then email them instead of ranting on this board. Forgive me for not including that in the initial post.
I really don't know how public June Jones goes in the offseason. I don't know this, but do others out there believe he's doing enough to press the flesh? June's gotta promote the thing too, ya know. He bears a little responsibility since he's the steward of this thing. IMO, he's being paid 2 million to not only win football games but SELL the program. If he's reluctant to do some of that, then shame on him.
People can rip Mack Brown, but that guy is always selling all the time and people know who he is and are paying attention to him.
Anyway, I paid many a compliments to the marketing department for the way it promoted the TCU game. Converserly, you were dumping on us because we were dumping on Patterson because he was dumping on the way we were promoting the game.
They called for a Red Out vs. TCU. That looked like it worked. They called for a Blue Out against Houston. It didn't because the weather wreaked havoc. We're averaging over 20K this year? It's getting there unless you want to throw in the disclaimer about season tickets not being sold.
As for Saturday, if there are people who are going to get ticked off because others elected to leave during 2-plus hour weather delay rather than wait it out, then that's just short-sighted thinking. I know I couldn't stay. I had stuff going on Saturday night starting about 7. What time did our game end?
Also, I seem to recall a couple of years ago how you would dump on the rent-a-fan concept because they weren't real fans. We were just busing them in. Frankly, that was an insult to the kids and the mentors who were giving those kids an opportunity to do something that they ordinarily would not have had.
Had a great turnout from this kids this past weekend, and I think it's great. If you're going to make a connection deep into Dallas, you can't find a better way. How many will stay with it? I don't know. I hope the program continues.
But the best agent to get people interested in you program is winning and winning consistently. One-year wonders aren't going to cut it and you know that. You need a track record. I've had my tickets since Ford opened and keep coming back regardless of the product. But you and I are exception to the rule.
We aren't the Chicago Cubs either.

Well said GSP.
And hey, look on the bright side, we could be the Dallas Cowboys. They almost have more fans at this game tonight than we've had in the 5 home games we've had this season. But we stand a better chance of going to the post season than they do!

sure hope we are already working on a plan to generate a large crowd for that final home game of the season; we can't beat this attendance drum loud enough folks. All you have to do is turn on the TV and watch some college football to distinguish the haves from the have nots. It's all about attendance and atmosphere

What do you think June Jones was thinking about after the weather delay while looking up in the stands and seeing maybe 4,000 people there?

June Jones was thinking-"that looks like 2,000 fans not 4,000".

He was thinking, "I wonder if we'll draw more or less when we play Northwestern State next year".

I'm sure it was as deflating to the coaches as it was to the players

Yes, I'm sure the lack of fans caused Kyle Padron to commit 3 turnovers that led to Houston points.
Yes, I'm sure the lack of fans caused the Kickoff team to allow a return for a score.
Yes, I'm sure the lack of fans caused the defense to turn in a miserable performance.
Yes, I'm sure the lack of fans caused June Jones to deliver a somber performance in the post game press conference.
Yes, I'm sure the lack of fans caused Jones, WHO APPARENTLY IS THE TEFLON COACH BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD DARE SAY ANYTHING WAS HIS FAULT, to coach a really lousy game.
When you get a 2 1/2 hour delay, how many people do you think are willing to stay. Sorry. it's not happening.
