The criticism of the Coaching staff on that play should be that they took their starting defense off the field in an obvious fake situation. The lack of backside containment- I'm pretty sure-was lack of execution by the players on that side

Exactly. The defense should have been on the field and let a potential punt land where it land.

But there's no guarantee we're going to stop the play with that unit on there. The great thing about assignment football is that assignments must be carried out. And that's why it's never perfect.

The bottom line is we got beat on the play. Marshall made a good call executed the other play.

I guess our South Texas Student can't account for them random percentage he threw out there.

Two decades of watching football and I've seen maybe 20 reverses where the defense stayed home. All but once those reverses were stopped for minimal yardage (about half the time, negative yardage). That's how I get my stats.

YOU need a headset wired in to June. I'm sure a fake punt never entered his mind, nor Mason's. Geez... you need to quit your day job and get on the staff - these guys can't coach a lick.

great question to ask at the luncheon tomorrow.

It was a great play by Marshall and very well executed.... There was absolutely nobody within 10 yards of him on that side. We have no clue as to why that was but you would think there would have been 1 cover guy over there...

We did get beat, but again, we stood a better chance by having a different defensive play called. That's all. I don't believe anyone is actually "guaranteeing" that we would have stopped it, we just would have improved our chances for a stop. See the difference?

Can you document all of those reverses that you've seen in those two decades? The game? The situation? Where the ball was?

You don't know as much as you think you do. And I can promise you after watching about 5 decades of football, I'm not going to pretend to have the answer for everything.

Did I say I have the answer for everything? There's a heck of a lot that I don't know, but I do know what is required to stop a reverse (most people do!). The reason why many reverses are successful are because of overpursuit. When no one "stays home," you have ZERO chance of stopping it, just as we saw yesterday.

If I wanted to answer your questions, I would, but since you seem to take great pride in being an @ss, I will instead ignore them.

I wasn't at most of the games for the better part of two decades that you were at. I need your help.

I'll see if I can get the game film from the games in question and pass it along your way.

Alyssa said to me that "this is going to be a fake punt" long before the play was set.
It was a time in the game to expect a fake punt.

They had a safe return on, the players just didn't execute it properly.
