actually everything has changed because there are no more unique SMU admission issues-now we deal with NCAA minimum qualification issues just like everyone else. Mucfh more should be expected

I was really referring to Ponyboy in this thread downplaying the importance of recruiting

Darryl Jackson had to complete courses at a LA Community College too before he could attend UCLA. SMU offered Jackson the exact same deal as UCLA-2 courses at a JUCO and mid term admission. Darryl never made it to UCLA either at mid-term or the following year. Darryl Jackson eventually decommitted from UCLA-(grades?) sat out an entire year-not just a half year- and suddenly went to Oregon St. where he never played a down of college football because of high school football injury that never recovered. No kid who has been denied admission at SMU has ever started a single game at the 1A Level. Almost assuredly Darryl Jackson scored below at 820 SAT (recentered from the old 700 SAT) which previously was the minimum SAT under the sliding scale. To avoid a lawsuit from Black CoachesAssociationj the NCAA appeased the Coaches by allowing a bottomless floor SAT. Most quality universities do not admit kids that fall below that floor. That would would be about 400 points below SMU's average admission. You guys were silent when SMU was denying admission to 50-60% of the recruiting crop (representing hundreds of potential recruits) and now want to complain about an miniscule sliver of a recruiting crop from the huge Texas recruiting pie. June Jones can't hide behind this ridiculous excuse when about 50% of his recruits are in the old Category C that previous coaches dealt with. Since not a single recruit that has been denied admission to SMU has ever started a game at the Division 1A level how could June Jones claim that it has had a significant effect on SMU's competitiveness. It hasn't. Next excuse.
