would be nice if Niemchi and Pope could both RS next year and we could see a lot of Line and Fields. That's a pretty potent duo and then Pope and K.C could be around that much longer. Gotta have depth at RB

it will be a sign that our offense is working better if the production from the running backs goes down in aggregate, not up. This O is suppose to be pass first - we leaned on line since it wasnt working all that well most of the season.

given that zach and butler have combined for about 1400 with two games remaining, i don't think that 1800 is too far of a stretch.

A good offense should be dynamic enough to adapt to the teams strengths as we did this year. I would love to see Daryll Fields used as a Multi-Purpose / Reggie Bush type of back where he does a lot of catching out of the backfield.

I would love to see some two back sets next year. The more different situations we throw at the defenses the more difficult it is for them to game plan against us.

GO PONIES!!!

I guess it is time for my weekly Zach Line post and for once, I agree that it would be nice to change up the offense a little next year and use some two running back sets.

PK wrote:We run the R&S which is normally very much pass oriented, so if there are two running backs their combined yardage won't be much more than what Zach totalled this year. Now then, if JJ decides to make use of his running backs more than usual for the R&S, then maybe we can see much more yardage combined. I think Zach will still get the majority of the carries next year. It will be interesting to see what happens.

However, I agree with PK that Zach will and should get the majority of the carries next year because the R&S is a single back offense and Zach happens to be the best back in the entire conference.

The issue I have with our current offense is that it is too predictable. Zack did a great job but it was too easy to key on him. It is amazing he got as many yards as he did. If we used two backs once and a while it would present more problems for the other team to defense.

GO PONIES!!!

Two backs invites more stacking of the line and then the need for a tight end and then.......

The real question is, will unclebill give a hoot about Mustang football after Zack has graduated?

redpony wrote:I think a lot of what we do next year will depend on how our WRs are doing and how KP is as far as accuracy. More variety in the R&S will only make it more difficult to defense.

GO PONIES!!!

This is what I was thinking, if KP is showing superior command of the offense and is in sync with the wideouts then June isn't going to call runs nearly as much. Not sure how much Fields is going to get to do on offense if Line stays healthy.

this thread should read Line & Fields IMO.

Line has been everything we need and more. Im looking forward to seeing this team continue to get better. Im excited about the future.

With Al being gone next year we need someone that has the big play ability. Hopefully Fields will have that home run threat whenever he touches the ball.

First I hope you know I am a big Line supporter. I got tired of defending him on the scout site so just quit trying. But I do think most who doubted him have now come around and appreciate him for what he has done.

As far as the statement above, many parents and relatives of players come to ponyfans and express their opinions and when the player graduates, we never hear from them again. Although it may have sounded a tad rude, I sure was not intended so. We just want you to remain part of the family after Zach graduates. Same could be said for HBponydad who we want to continue after his daughter completes school.

Please know that most all if not all on this site appreciate and enjoy having the top RB in CUSA.
