Sorry, not afraid of losing out to ECU on a conference jump. I just don't feel any threat. Now, Houston or TCU putting up roadblocks on the other hand...

My guess is not much at all.

Yeah I forgot, the BE is only concerned about $$$, so we sell them on being in a huge media market.
John Marinatto, once explained the prospect of expansion: "Membership — quality membership and quality inventory — drives value," "We're certainly cognizant of the value that expansion and quality inventory would bring to a television partner."

Don't kid yourselves:
This is still about BCS inclusion. One school, a small private school with who has been eating up lightweights no less(even though they are still stronger than the current BE) is not a guarantee to keep BCS status in the long run. The football playing schools are going to have to make a committment to football, even if that means at the expense of Basketball.
What I'm saying is TCU, who for the same reasons as I gave for us hating them going to the BE will hate us for joining them, will grit their teeth and go along with us joing IF that helps assure the conference's AQ status. That's the only real question.

The important thing for the BE is to keep BCS status for the next round of evaluation, then worry about the long term. TCU gives them that.

I wonder if there would be a way to "buy" into a conference? You'd like to think with all our big money boosters/alumni that we could maybe make up what we lack in numbers with money. SMU is a sleeping giant. Time to wake up.

I agree, I'm just sayin' if TCU has any pull now.

Fed Ex Founder and CEO Fred SmIth has apparently tries this for Memphis, rumored to offer a Fed Ex Sponsorship of the Big East at $10M/year. Didn't work.

I don't think, in this case, TCU hurts our chances or tries to block us to Big East. This is a chance to be mutally beneficial.
Everyone knows TCU cannot deliver the DFW market. TCU will always be a novelty playing Big East teams in a Big 12 town. Big East will get recruiting help from it, but the default schools to consider growing up in DFW will still be Big 12.
By having two schools in DFW, you can now have a Big East game in town every weekend. You can get better TV access, and start to build SMU and TCU in profile, especially with the rivalry game. We are both a project for attendance purposes.
Build up both teams and start to make Big East in DFW less of a novelty, and make DFW more of a "Big East town." Or at least less of a Big 12 town.
It's unfortunate Rice isn't trying to win or they could have been a similar pair with Houston.
I think, if this is true, BE takes SMU and UH, and then takes Navy if they want in, and ECU (no market) otherwise.
Also, taking 3 schools in Texas helps in the event of a Big-12 explosion. Gives the BE a lot more leverage to survive and gobble up Big 12 leftovers rather than the other way around and save the conference when BE gets raided later.

Let's use our political clout a la Baylor for the Big XII.

Why do we think tcu is so opposed to us following them? It does make sense for the big eas to add at least one more Texas school, making the big east make more geographical sense for tcu.

The Big East does not care about making geographical sense (see Miami joining in the 90s). It wants to make $$$, so instead of arguing on the basis of geography, we (as Couch em') alluded to must argue that SMU's addition would solidify a strong BE base in DFW.
