First time head coach? Not impressive. A move worthy of the SMU of old.

A proven winner is far more preferable.

not only that, but they hired a ponyfan as their head coach.

Where's the basketball on his head?

Colorado? Shambles.

Cincinnati? Coach from Central Michigan has to prove himself in the Big East.

Neither of those seem like major threats at this point given what we have going on here.

anyone watch the Cincy game last week? snow was 3-5 inches on the field. Colorado has the same usually.

Hard to imagine a SoCal kid wants to go play in those conditions

JJ tells his kids to take visits and only come to SMU if they're 100% sure...

that being said, I'd love to know Conner Preston's take on JJ offering the Driphus (Jackson?) kid from Cedar Hill as a passing qb for 2011 as well...

It's time for a couple of 3* and 4* WR's to go along with these QB's. 2014 will be here before we know it.

You have to think Preston is a highly respected player on his team, and the players see he is going to SMU. Thats a great program to have a recruiting hub.

A BUNCH of schools will be in on Conner Preston before it's all said and done. I'll be surprised if he doesn't pick up another star with his performance in the playoffs and as more schools offer. So props to Adrian Klemm, Dan Morrison and the rest of June Jone's staff for identifying this talent early and offering.

Given his performance this year, I expect he'll be getting lots of phone calls and talking to a lot of coaches. But I also heard second hand (so I don't know any details) that he may be trying to complete his coursework this semester so he could enroll at SMU in January (in time for spring ball). So while that obviously doesn't prevent him from talking to other schools, I think it is at least an encouraging sign.

I really like the idea that he might be able to get in for spring practice and be able to compete right away.

Not an indictment on Preston, but I don't want any kid coming in here and starting as a true frosh ever again. As long as he has one red shirt year, he can start all four years for all I care. But if he comes in here and starts as a frosh at A&M, then next season is an unmitigated disaster.

In an ideal program, the QB doesn't see the field until his red shirt junior or senior season.

we're still a couple years from being an ideal program, but it is good to see that he wants to get in and get to work learning the system and proving that in a couple years he has earned a starting job.

Another good sign is that Preston was working to recruit mammoth OL prospect Taylor Reich who committed to SMU earlier today. According to 3rd hand sources this time, Preston gained an appreciation for Reich's abilities after watching Reich manhandle Preston's team's DLs at a game earlier this fall.

"Preston is on target to graduate this week from Serra and enroll at SMU in January. "

"Preston said Colorado and Cincinnati remained on the periphery and that he seriously considered attending West Point, particularly with his family's military history."

We need Preston to start working on Marqise Lee next. We need a burner to replace Al.
