I dont understand why a green (Ga) or blackmon (OSU) type reciever would not see SMU as a great place to showcase. Combine that kind of size at outside receiver with a CUSA defense and our offense and they would have some sick numbers put up on the board - why cant we get that done?

actually, Bennett recruited a third round NFL draft pick and record setter AR...so maybe even not "about the same"

it's much more important to have the guy distributing the ball and for him to have protection and time to make the reads.

Were Sanders and Robinson heavily recruited coming out of HS?

I believe Sanders was an unranked 4.9 prospect.

Its both Dutch. You can have a great O line but you need a hoss to go up and get the ball sometimes no matter how good the line. We need speed size AND vertical - Dont know why we cant get that.

SMU coaches were watching and he caught 9 passes for 188 yards after Abilene decided to pass more since their stud RB Herschell Sims(Okla St) got hurt. He hasn't really put up big numbers except for that game although Abilene is more of a running team. They throw ball about 15-18 plays per game-more this year because Herschell Sims missed several games. He was hurt for much of his Junior year. He's a pretty good track athlete too scoring in multiple events

Sanders was a 4.5 rated, 2-star recruit per Rivals

Best I can tell, SMU was his *only* offer of any kind.

they gave everybody 2 stars back them. It wasn't a 4.5 rating it was a 4.9 rating. According to the Rivals system, a 4.9 signifies that no recruiting analyst had enough information on him to give him an actual rating. Coaches knew about him. Rivals didn't list them but SMU on signing date reported he had offers from 4 schools-I know Houston offered, I think Baylor offered and some other CUSA type teams.

Article says that due to injuries one year Joseph was limited to playing safety in the victory formation to run out the clock. That cracks me up. How about just saying he was limited by injuries.

Abilene duo give verbal commitments to SMU

The Abilene quarterback-wide receiver tandem of Ronnell Sims and Darius Joseph have given their verbal commitments to SMU, according to reports from Scout.com and Rivals.com.

Sims, the cousin of Oklahoma State commit Herschel Sims, is undersized at quarterback -- only 5-8 and 165 pounds -- but is an electrifying athlete, leading Abilene to a 5A Division II state title in 2009. This season, Sims was 142 of 224 for 1,893 yards and 19 touchdowns passing, while rushing for 893 yards and 10 scores. He's projected to move to slot receiver in college.

Sims picked SMU over Baylor, Rice, Tulsa and Louisiana Tech.

Joseph, a 6-1, 190-pound receiver and safety, could play either position on the next level.

Both players received offers from SMU soon after Abilene's game against Florida power Tampa Plant was broadcast on national television -- Abilene's fifth game of the season.

"It feels good that I was able to impress him in one half like that," Sims told Scout.com after receiving the offer. "Being that I play quarterback and I'm undersized and they see something in me that I can play another position, that was nice to hear. It makes me feel good that they have faith in me to come in their program and make an impact."

Verbal commitments are non-binding; the first day a football commit from the Class of 2011 can sign a National Letter of Intent is Feb. 2.

It is puzzling. Like who is our "speed burner" WR for the 2011 season?
