Sources close to the program indicated that streamlining the academic process in admitting athletes and helping to keep them eligible remains a priority for Jones to take SMU to the next level.

I've been trying to tell you guys this, away from the cameras, and behind closed doors Turner is a HUGE problem. Orsini and June have to FIGHT Turner every step of the way. We have to get Turner to resign Steve Orsini.
So why can't a few folks from SMU drive over to fu&%ing Fort Worth and hang out with TCU's Athletic Dept. and athletic academic support people, take some notes, come back to Dallas and if they're not cheating at TCU, just install essentially the same policies, procedures etc...and be done with? Wouldn't that satisfy June and the faculty?

DCPony, good thought. Don't be surprised if something similar to that did indeed take place. The committee Dr. Turner formed talked to a number of peer institutions about all mentioned in your post. Just because some do it one way and are successful does not mean that it is the right plan for us. Or, rather, does not mean our administration agrees with all that others do.

No vehement denials this time, he could still go. Out of consideration today, back in tomorrow or after the bowl game. Steinberg could be trying to get more money out of Maryland.

if i recall, he never denied talking to SMU b/c there was no leak that we had spoken with him. that was one of his conditions. if word got out that we had even whispered his name, then the deal was off. can't see that being different this go-around.
and if he does go somewhere, i am much more comfortable that we have proven that we are willing to compete at the next level, and pay 'next level' money.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
That's great that Maryland is throwing big dollar numbers out there, but I had a friend of mine give me a quick lesson about "Fear the Turtle" because I really don't know anything about this school other than their BB coach Gary Williams won the 2002 NC in men's hoops there, the late Len Bias played there and there really hasn't been a lot football traction there over the years.
He told me that it's a commuter school and compared it to Cougar High, fan interest has always been so-so and that he didn't think the resources from a state institution could help it keep up with the other ACC schools.
Aside from that, Maryland is home to one schrill [deleted] of a U.S. Senator in Barbara Mikulski.
