If Graham leaves Tulsa, it will only further solidify their rep as a stepping stone to bigger jobs. Has been their fate for years - and not just in football.

no decent coach is going to stay at Rice because they are not committed to winning at the D1A Level.

Graham has been at Tulsa for 4 seasons and enjoyed some success. He also played for a conference title game. Weren't they trying to bust up the BCS until they lost at Arkansas a couple of years ago?

I think he's done a fine job there. And as a coach, if you're never challenging yourself, then why stay in the business? Coaches challenge their players all the time to reach a higher level.

Tulsa is a not a destination job. Pittsburgh really isn't either but it's a step above and it gets you closer to where you want to be.

Hope it works out for him.

And if it doesn't CUSA profits by him staying.

Tulsa will never be a destination job. Ever.

They certainly seem to do well finding what turn out to be pretty good coaches who use them as a very effective stepping stone, though - sometimes Tulsa has been able to keep them long enough to go deep in a tournament or even win one, along with a conference championship from time to time.

Source: Todd Graham, Pitt near deal

Tulsa coach Todd Graham is close to a deal to become Pittsburgh's next coach, a source close to Graham told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Pittsburgh, which reopened its coaching search after firing Mike Haywood just weeks after hiring him, is attempting to meet financial considerations for Graham and his staff, according to the source.

Tulsa went 10-3 this season and beat Hawaii in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.

Pittsburgh had hired Haywood from Miami (Ohio) after Dave Wannstedt resigned under pressure. But the university fired Haywood after he was arrested and charged with felony domestic violence in South Bend, Ind.

Tom Bradley of Penn State and Bud Foster of Virginia Tech are among other coaches who have been strongly considered for the job.

Just went through Rivals, not one of Tulsa's 3 star and above have us on their list...

Amazing that we didn't recruit vs these guys at all considering how similar in style we are...

Tulsa has also traditionally had a strong recruiting presence and success in Pennsylvania...

Really? I can't think of a single Tulsa player from Penn. Tulsa concentrates on Oklahoma, North Texas, Southern Louisiana and Arkansas

I guess Tulsa would go after Malzhan-can't believe he hasn't taken a job. They would have to come up with some big bucks but unlike some schools they actually do try to compete with their limited resources. I doubt he'll end up at Tulsa because Malzhan can afford to be picky but I do think its a better job for his future than BCS Vandy which is a dead end.

I think Malzhan to LSU is more likely then Malzhan to Tulsa.
