no way the ncaa beats down smu again...right?

As SMU isn't playing and/or beating the 'sips in the near future I sure we're safe from persecution!

No way auburn keeps the title for more than 1.5 years. Heisman will be gone on a similar timeframe I would predict.

Had the NCAA negated UA wins prior to the BSC title game, then a very real possibility would have been TCU vs. Oregon. And we do not know for sure the results of that contest.

I fear UA getting caught. IF so, then some whippersnapper upstart will be punished. And we are that upstart whippersnapper that could clearly be in the NCAA’s bulls eye (can one still say that?).

That is the perfect answer. People have got to stop thinking of the BCS and the NCAA as the same thing. The NCAA is the organization of college sports. The BCS is interested only in USING the athletes/teams from the NCAA to make money.

Won't prevent a label of "tainted" following it everywhere it's mentioned if it comes to pass. We here at SMU certainly know how that works... :x

The investigation will really start in 6 months. Auburn will say that they will assist in the investigation - they won't but still claim they are. The investigation will last 48 minutes. The NCAA will then spend 6 years writing their justifications for not vacating the victories and taking away the title.

6.5 years for this to go away and Auburn's title to be confirmed.

Someone catch me up on some facts I think I missed. Now I understand that Cam's father did wrong, and if I remember, he even admitted it. I understand that the wrong took place at Mississippi State, and State reported the incident. The NCAA has investigated and to my knowledge, Auburn has not been accused of anything. Even by outsiders. Actually they have been declared not to have committed a wrong.

Yes I agree that the NCAA is dumb for not doling out some kind of punishment based on "Cam did not know anything", and possibly Cam Newton could somehow be punished down the line, perhaps another relinquishing of the Heisman, if he is found to have lied about this. But for the life of me I cannot figure why Auburn should be punished. They have been investigated and no wrong doing has been found. Newton was declared eligible to play and they played him.

Where am I wrong? Why should there ever be a question as to the Championship when it was played with an accused person who was declared ok to play?

Obviously if Auburn were subsequently found to have given money for Cam to attend then the story could change, but without a direct accusation with evidence, why would they investigate any further. Has the NCAA not already finished and ruled regardless of their ridiculous decision?

Well there is that tearful statement made by Cam Newton to MSU coaches that - I can't remember the exact words so I'll paraphrase-I'm backing out of MSU because the deal Auburn is offering is too much. That shows both knowledge and intent by Newton not his father. Now that statement maybe discredited but its out there and deserves investigation

They really has been nothing investigatory but an alleged checking of the Newton Family Bank account. But we all know CASH is king.

I'm sure Cam and Dad decided not to go to Mississippi State but rather Auburn because it was "closer to home".

Apparently all the Newton Churches have been significantly upgraded by I assume anonymous offerings in the collection plate from new and converted church goers.

Come on mrydel even Arkansans aren't that naive!

Sorry, but I asked for facts, not speculation. I do not know about what Stallion is referring. I missed that speech. And I am not pleading for Newton's innocence. What I am saying is that unless someone has more to offer I do not see this going any farther. It appears to be done.

Now something like Stallion mentions could be a reason to reopen the investigation, but without something new it just seems to be a done deal.

From what I have heard, it sounds like the NCAA has dealt with the Cam Newton situation as it pertains to the USM allegations. There is speculation that the real dirt is tied up in a federal investigation revolving around misused TARP funds and the now defunct Colonial Bank which was founded and run by an Auburn alumn. Supposedly, the FBI has audio tapes with high powered Auburn alumni discussing pay for play schemes including Cam Newton. Apparently the Feds will not turn over the evidence to the NCAA until their case is completed. I am not saying that any of this is true, but I am assuming this is why a lot of people are speculating that it might take several years for the entire story to shake out.

Here is my take. It appears to be an accepted fact that Cam's dad was shopping him...so how does Cam wind up at Auburn with no cash exchanging hands? I mean really? Suddenly the need for money in exchange for commitment no longer existed? Really? Give me a break. 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
