Very strange. I don't get it. Why would we publically announce it?
-I'm sure they know from behind the scenes.
-If Orsini/Turner are trying to pacify alumni.....why? There's not uproar.
-Is it publicity for a done deal to go Big12? I doubt it.
-If there is no deal, why say anything? Getting shot down publically is an embarassment.

ESPN pushing SMU to Big12 via their analyst Craig James
ESPN controls the Big 12.
ESPN pushed SMU big time via the Pony Excess promotion, being season finale, etc.
Is this the groundwork for having a positive spin on SMU to Big12?

We have nothing to lose. We are already non-AQ.
When I read this early this morning, I never would have thought it would be picked up everywhere and lead ESPN's college football show.
We've already accomplished something we didn't have previously - making ourselves part of the conversation.
And it doesn't hurt that this happened to come out the day A&M sent it's letter to the Big XII. Nice tie in media-wise.

If the b12-2 adds 3 teams to get to 12 I think we have a good chance. If they add only one then I doubt if we get in. I hope the positive pub keeps coming.

My first question after A&M leaves is whether one or three are added. If one, I would expect Big 12 to call BYU. I don't know if they would accept, but they are the most attractive and bring a new metro market, SLC. If three, then Notre Dame (highly unlikely), AFA, Houston and SMU are the candidates.

We have T Boone Pickens support (OSU)
We give Big12 more DFW games to counter SEC presence and recruiting. Remember Jerry Jones is an SEC man.

Just my opinion, but the big news coming out of this is the coordinated efforts of SMU's administration, athletic department, and high-profile alums, to state publicly and with confidence our commitment and ambition to play with the big boys.
Sure there are a lot of things to do, but this is the essential first step.
I believe this is a turning point for the university, no matter the result, and I applaud it. We now have a stated goal to succeed. Let's win some big games along the way to help the cause!
