Absolutely nothing but people wanted to believe, can't really blame them for supporting the team. We're just not in the right place to win games like this, we need a world-beater at QB to run this offense effectively and we don't have one.

Baylor won at home, not at Kyle field. Too tall of an order tonight. We may get one and god knows we need a big win, but tonight was a huge longshot: on the road (always tough), massively tough place to play, season opener (JJ teams start slow), SEC put A&M under the spotlight, playing against a veteran team with skill guys, and oh yeah, a top 10 team. We needed Tech at Ford Stadium tonight to get legit chance at a nice win, thats what we needed, but schedules are too far in advance and we do have to nut up and play these type games.

So will I. Tonight showed the guys how far they have to go to play with the bigs, but there was definitely enough ability to take out some frustration on UTEP next Saturday. I was disappointed in our D; you can't give the WR's that much damned cushion and expect anything good to happen. Secondary needs to tighten up big time, and our d-line got some good push up front at first (even knocked down Tannehill a few times), then suddenly that fell apart.
JJ played well - for a backup QB. Nice to know we at least have one. But Kyle needs to start next week and get his head back together. UTEP is no longer at risk of being a trap game; it needs to be a statement game now for the conference.

KP needs to get this offense in gear. The run game looked good and we have a legit chance to compete on C-USA. An upset over Tulsa, Houston or UCF would be huge. Long season, lots can happen between now and then.
No kidding! There's a reason they're the No. 8 team in the country. We freaked out at the beginning and spotted the Aggies a 14-point lead, but then held our own for a little while. Did the Aggies wear us down and force some mistakes and pull away for a decisive win? Yes ... which is exactly what realistic fans expected. I was hoping more than anything that we would pull out a stellar game and shock the world. But I wasn't expecting it.

Exactly. We did some things well last year, some things not so well. We have a lot of talented players, but not enough to beat the No. 8 team in the country at their place. That said, we should win next week, at which point we'll be 1-0 in C-USA games.

Returning starters on both sides of the ball. Having Juniors on the team for the first time in 25 years.....
Aggies had just as much returning experience as we did ... and their overall talent level is better ... and they were home in front of 90,000 lunatics ... and ... and ...
We'll be fine this year. This game required a near-miracle to win, and we didn't get it.
I personally love our conference . Especially our division, and cant wait to start conference play next week which is what matters the most. UTEP almost got beat by Stony Brook? Who the hell is that?
A small group of SMU students chanted "OVERRATED" when we scored to make it 20-14 lol. So at least there for a few minutes we all had hope.

And on a side note: I like Leach's Air Raid better though. And I wish we will someday build a really tough and punishing SEC like defense to beat up offenses. If it's going to happen it's going to take longer.
Sherman took the aggies from a mediocre Big 12 team to a nationally Top 10 ranked team in 4 years. It only takes 4 to 6 years, not 10.
We better start showing some real improvement. Right now, this program peaked year before last and for some reason is starting to coast downward.

Bingo. No reasonable person could have possibly expected a win in this game. A more conpetitive game, pehaps, and that was disappointing, but at the end of the day we are 0-1 just like we should be going into the conference opener. Take care of UTEP and all will be right again.

I some what agree with your time frame expectation schedule. When JJ was hired I expected to start seeing progress in the 5th year and national status by year 10. Our biggest problem today is learning how to win and trust the coaching and system.
