Even the tv guys, who I swear were not even watching the same game at times, thought it was indefensible

On a related note, the roughing the kicker call earlier in that drive was correct. Although, he didn't hit the guy's foot very hard, so I guess you could argue that it should have just been running into the kicker, which would have only been 5 yards and not an automatic 1st down.
I was thinking the same thing during the game. There's no way that should have earned a roughing penalty.

Thought they changed rule to take out judgement so it is 15 yards no matter what? Could be wrong.

THAT WAS HORRIBLE!! Victor was in great position, and how he got flagged on that, I will never know! Terrible!

This was the same ref who called for a completed pass later in the game when the UTEP QB bounced it in 2 feet in front of the receiver. As the sideline reporter on the radio said "you have to excuse him, he wasn't actually looking at the play on the field".
Bad call. Glad it didn't end up costing us the game (see Marshall several years ago with the fumble - wait I mean "incomplete pass"

When the kicker's leg is in the air and he is vulnerable it is automatic 15 yards. I was screaming because I thought that Sorrell actually had avoided the leg and the kicker had faked the hit. I have just watched the replay and although not a violent hit, Sorrell did hit the leg while it was fully up and it was a 15 yard penalty event.

true, but the way some punters hop around on one leg for 5 seconds like they're part of the Rockettes in order to try to draw contact can get pretty ridiculous.

That was really bad too. That ref sucked

I thought that was the facemask. Just grasping it and immediately letting go used to be 5, now it's all 15.

There is a 0% chance that that ref saw anything justifying a penalty on Jones. He made a decision to throw a flag based on something else. We need to do an investigation on this guy and get his @ss out of college football. Sounds like a crazy statement, but if you saw the replay, it was just a completely indefensible call and not even a junior high ref would have made that call 100 times out of 100.
Yes. the worst call of all time.
Close. The worst call of all time was a few years ago when Okie State came in town to play us. Rashaun Woods literally pushed down our cornerback in the end zone and then jumped out to catch the TD pass, and yes, they called a PI on us.

SMU21TCU10,
Just curious, but on your GIF, is the official throwing a flag for unnecessary roughness to the facemask or nuts?

I just watched the replay. Our man was in front of the receiver and kind of got lost. Then he stumbled and the receiver ran up his back, and the ball actually hit our man in the helmet. I believe the call was made against us (not accidentally against the wrong team) believing that our man stopped and impeded the progress of the receiver. It actually was incidental contact at worst and offensive PI at best. It was a bad call. If it had been a reviewable play I think it would have been a no call.

But even if our guy was lost, he has as much right to the ball as the receiver. The receiver cannot go through the defender to get to the ball when the defender has position on him (even if by accident).

I hope JJ shows that Interference call as well as the interference call on the pick at the start of the game. I thought the WR was slipping before there was any contact on that pick play.

We have had "Mr. Tiny Ref" before. I don't recall him ever calling a good game that we are playing in. I guess he is consistent...
