Well, as a variation of a previous musing I had, instead of looking to go around the mountain or over the mountain, maybe SMU should just try to bust a hole right through the mountain:

Beg and plead with Notre Dame, the holy grail of CFB, to band together with SMU and organize the following conference, which would assure a BCS bid:

Notre Dame
SMU
Navy
AFA
UCONN
WVU
Rutgers
USF
Louisville
UCF
MIZZOU (who's looking for greener pastures)

AND...hold your nose...Boise St. or Cincinnati or maybe Houston, etc., etc.

I know, I know...ridiculous, but dammit, we should be trying every angle we possibly can...

I agree that Orsini is a pro-active guy who is working a bunch of angles. I also see the SEC as our panacea, but I have very slim hopes that they will come knocking at our door unless Missouri is a firm no, and even then I would say an offer from them is doubtful. But I also think it seems odd that Missouri is considered such a prize by everyone. The entire state doesnt have as many people in it as the DFW SMSA, and the state fossil is a crinoid.

It is my understanding that Missouri has not been invited to the SEC. That is the hold up, not Missouri trying to decide. And we are not on any list of the SEC's at all.

For the record. I was being sarcastic. We are not going to the SEC.

Its a wait and play game with Mizzou. They haven't officially been offered an SEC spot, but they have also said that they aren't going anywhere for the 2012 season. SEC wants a 14th team immediately and can't decide if they want to hold out for Mizzou or make another school an offer they can't refuse. We, the Big East, CUSA and MtnW are all standing outside the dance hall waiting to see who pairs up. Kind of like waiting outside the sidewalk of a trendy NYC club hoping the doorman will take pity on us.

I wish there was more discussion about this. I agree that Mizzo does not have an SEC offer.

Hard for me to believe the SEC would allow Mizzo to leave them dangling in the wind for so long...and all for the hopes of a BIg 10 offer?

That would be the equivalent of SMU telling the PAC-12 to hold on while we see if there is any SEC interest. I simply don't see it. We could take that PAC-12 offer in a heartbeat.

SEC has already said they are fine with 13 in 2012 and have already drawn up tentative schedules-the 14th team likely would be for 2013 which is why the Big 12 Commissioner made the statement yesterday that they will have 10 teams for 2012. He discussed this with SEC Commissioner so he knows Missouri is not going anywhere for 2012

If everything is put on hold for a year, that just gives SMU the chance to continue improving and be better positioned to be part of a new Big East. Remember, we were 1-11 in 2008 and look how far we have gone. Another year should help us be better positioned.

The Big 12 has agreed to patiently wait for a "decision" from Mizzou.

This whole thing was fun for several months and now I'm just tired, bitter, and ready for certainty.

Hey, Mizzou! Show me you can make a decision!
