As I mentioned a few days ago I think we are one spot short of getting in.
Big East will add the following:

Boise
Air Force
Houston
Central Florida
Navy
Temple

Not to worry, two additional spots will be available when

West Virginia and Louisville are selected to join the Big 12.

I vote for beating them both and proving SMU is the most desirable program.

Boy that'll fill the stands!

Not only is your cup usually half empty, it has a long crack down the side.

Well the upside to the crappy conference is we are favorites to run the table every year. 3 seasons of 12-0 with 3 decent bowl games have to get us some coverage right? Then the next re-alignment we are known for being a winning program. :?

Incredible how in less than 15 posts it goes from prossible Big East invite to SMU should shut down the football program. In-f*c%n-credible.

This is stupid -- not sure why you guys even bother discussing the "crappy conference" scenario. It's not going to happen. If it were to happen, there would be no upside, no "12-0 seasons." We would lose our best recruits immediately and be back where we were three years ago. I think we merge with MWC, go independent or form a new conference before we go there again.

If we lose UCF and Houston, backfill with La. Tech (usually travels well to Dallas) and NMSU who fits well with UTEP and call it a day. If the MWC loses Boise and AFA, its not worth joining. Think about it, its the old WAC we left. Nevada, UNLV, UNM, SDS, Hawaii, Fresno State, Wyoming, Colorado State. Sorry but I'd rather stay with CUSA and have closer travel and equal or better games. ECU, USM, UAB, Marshall, Tulane, Tulsa, UTEP, Rice, Memphis and then two add ons, or not. Then we embrace CUSA and dominate it.

I still can't see Navy moving in without Army, and I sure as heck can't see Boise joining a conference on the other side of the country. They can hold tight and do the Pac whatever when they end up expanding.

ponyte wrote:Interesting. Temple actually may fit well. Philly is the #4 TV market (ahead of Dallas which is #5). THis may put us on the outside. For once the Dallas huge TV market is trumped. Not quite strong enough to be in like a UH. But in an attractive market so we can't be completely ignored. Of course BSU keeps the Big East in at he AQ status and they may well want more games closer to Boise.

Except nova is already in Philly, and temple was previously kicked out

Based on Sagarin, take Boise and TCU out and MWC becomes arguably the 9th best conference behind WAC and C-USA. no interest in MWC without Boise.

Is everyone already forgetting that UH was behind SMU in what the BE wanted. That was reported earlier this week by the Houston Chronicle, the Cougar high home paper. So in a matter of a couple of days that does a 180 and now we are looking from the outside? Some of you need to stop drinking the poison kook aide SMT loves to push.

If the scenario happens as described in the article we are fine. If for some reason we are left on the outside, we get in when Louisville and WV leave. If that doesn't happen or the BE implodes we are in a merger situation with MWC. I'm getting really tired of the self loathing and woe is me speak.

So if we are left in a CUSA w/o UH and UCF, what do we do? MWC makes no sense w/o Boise. CUSA will backfill with FIU and UNT. What options does SMU have at that point? This is why we MUST find a way to inch ahead of Houston. But I just don't see it.

This has never been discussed and never will be...The only way this happens is if we go to the Big 12, which is a LONG shot. Either we are in or we are both out.
