Rutgers versus navy had 41k
Annapolis is only a couple of hours from Rutgers. And has lots of alumni up and down the east coast.

That's our fans! More worried about a party than watching and supporting our team.
I have stayed until the end of every game to sing the Varsity this season (except Memphis because I was here that weekend). This game, however, is boring and hot.

The attendance solution does not exist within the walls of this board

great performance by our team; pathetic effort from our fans (or lack thereof)

Exactly, we need a damn budget to help fix our attendance woes. I'm hoping that this Big East deal will finally allow us to do that. Start inviting local football teams (little league, middle school, high school teams, whatever is legal of us to do). Invite those teams, build regional fandom, push the Mustangs brand on the airwaves. We just have to make people aware that A) we got a great brand to sell right now that will only get better, and B) it's affordable and easy to be a part of the Mustangs brand. If we can't successfully do that within 5-10 years, then I'll lose hope in the Dallas area ever substantially supporting SMU athletics. However, I seriously think there's a TON of hope, we just have to flex our monetary muscles to do that (at the moment we can't, but hopefully soon that can change).
It really doesn't help our cause out that the Rangers are playing in a game with World Series implications (and the Stars as well).

I'm not sure money is the problem. Fact is SMU football has been bad for years and even before that Dallas folks abandoned the Mustangs for the Cowboys. I remember crowds of 13,000 rattling around in the Cotton Bowl back in the in the 1970s.
The Stars and the Rangers definately hurt things.

Dallas Stars aren't drawing much of a crowd these days. I think 6,000 and 7,000 the last 2 home games.

I agree, we are working against a harsh 25 year history. I still think marketing could help make SMU games the "cool" thing to do in Dallas. I see annoying Dallasites go to Stars games because of that fact. They don't know [deleted] about hockey but yet they go anyway. The SMU games are but only 8 times a year, with the right advertising I really do think we can turn it into a cool event to attend in Dallas. But like we agree, our history is really hurting us and the truth is we'll have to string more winning seasons together before the DMN and local radio stations start rushing to talk about us.
