Could it be also that a lot of SMU grads do not live in Dallas therefore the lack of local alumni support?

glad some people get it. it sucks, but it's realistic.

Doesn't matter what was going on, we have reached full attendance for what we have.
Need to find a way to expand our reach.

So you are saying if we are in the Big East we would fill the stadium? Also, if we play so called relevant opponents it looks bad when half the stadium is the opposing teams fans.
I said it would take wins too, when we get in the BE there's going to be an adjustment period because we'll be taking on better opponents so those wins won't be coming right away and the BE has no opponents that would be relevant to any casual fan. Attendance will be an issue for years to come.

Totally agree, but easier said than done. It is tough battle for SMU to be appealing to the casual Dallas sports fan. Again, I am repeating what others have said on PonyFans before, but SMU has a stigma of being an upper crust spoiled rich kid school, and that will be difficult to overcome no matter the opponent on the field or the conference we find ourselves in.
The solution - keep winning, keep inviting your friends, and keep letting the players and coaches know how much you enjoy coming to games and watching them represent our great university.

Is this going to be a multiple thread weak? I'd prefer to hear more about USM, since they have been on an upward trend and we do actually play them next week. But twenty redundant threads on stadium attendance is ok too i guess.

This was a tough sports weekend besides the ALCS we were also matched up against the UT game (personally I could have brought 2 more but they wanted to watch the horns).
A marketing department will help but the biggest thing is to get a top 25 team playing games that "matter". games matter in college fb if they implicate BCS conference championships or are rivalries. While the BE is the weakest conference currently the winner still goes to the fiesta bowl so uetral college fb fans will take notice if the team is competing for that. If we keep winning we will make that happen and you will see the stadium full.
Also it sucks that the TV cameras face the visiting side, the west side of the stadium always looks close to full

Kansas City... tuning into the game is how I can help support this team/program. I've also purchased
SMU items such as Hoodies and helmets... I get stopped all the time by people here, where the

Jayhawks and
Wildcats are the teams and get asked... why
SMU???
When I tell them about the
25 years of suffering and how the team is starting to get back to being relevant... they actually walk away wanting the
Mustangs to do well.

why look at how TCU did it through steady focused growth driven by success on the field?
rabble, rabble, rabble, rabble.
Oh, so now you want to point to
TCU as the model for how things are done? To me, that's a load of [Gary Patterson]!
Who says you have to follow anyone's footprints? Be bold and create your own. Make this team a team that others will be envious of and want to model their programs after.
There are other ways of doing it.
JJ has this team on the right track. Getting support by the fans will only help. And cynical fans who want to ramble on about how other school's have done it is not helping. It's time for you, and everyone else, to step things up.
Orsini did it when he hired
June.
June has done it by getting this team to two bowl games back-to-back and now, at
5-1, they have a chance to go even further and win the
C-USA Championship.
It's [Gary Patterson] remarks like yours that do nothing of any good for this program. Either wake up or go cheer for
TCU since they seem to be your model of how things should be done.
Jesus Christ man... I'm trying to point out to you that
SMU is on the brink of something really good and really big. And standing on that brink there is a chance to either move forward or fall back into the abyss. Why does it have to take
10 years? Why can't it happen sooner? The team is winning and needs support. Find ways to make it happen. Is it really that difficult?

If there was no strike we might have competed against the World Champion Mavericks for Entertainment Dollar. Welcome to Dallas!

Um yeah, it's just that difficult. If it wasn't then we wouldn't have attendance problems. You've been given plenty of reasons why they exist.

This is the first home game I've missed in... forever.
Problem was SMU waited until the last moment to pick a time. I bet on it being a night game, and I lost the gamble.
At least for me, I need to know dates and times several months ahead of time, or those of us who have busy work or travel schedules get booked.
Although I realize it's partially my fault for having other priorities, I'm a little pissed that I had to miss this game. If I have to buy my tickets in March, it's reasonable to know what I'm buying (i.e. whether I'll be able to attend the games, before writing the check).
My 2 cents... Had it been an evening game, we would have had more people (I bet there are a lot of families whose kids have Saturday activities).
