If you enjoy losing, small crowds, anonymity by all means stay in CUSA and support Rice, Tulane, etc.

There is more to life than $$$, but a program like SMU that is treading water financially an extra 24M will do wonders not just for the football program and the athletic department, but the university as a whole.

Its a HUGE upgrade.

Of course, but college football isn't just life, it's a business. In business, $ is both the means and the end.

Oh please. We would pay to go to the BE. We want to be in a BCS conference. Or at least that's what I hope people around here would want.

You're forgetting the exit fee for CUSA. And we probably couldn't join the BE until 2013. Would we still get 25 million? Not to mention higher travel costs and the loss of long time rivals Rice, Tulane, and Tulsa.

As far as those games go...We will now have Navy in conference so that opens a non-conference spot, add Rice. Not sure if Tulsa or Tulane are really long time Rivals, but assuming they are, there are plenty of spots still available. If we are in a better conference, then playing these teams non-conference is understandable. If we played Rice every year, TCU every year, Tulsa OR Tulane every year, and then one other non-conference game, I think that would work. The years that you are rebuilding, schedule North Texas, otherwise, A&M or Tech. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if we have to schedule a certain number of C-USA teams as part of our exit fee. *

*All assuming we go to the Big East with Navy

Who wants to bet a beer that the BE will still be alive and an AQ conference in four years? It will be.

They aren't going to take away the BE AQ status any time soon. What the soonest they can do it is 2016? Enough time for us to establish and position ourselves for the next move.

Oh wait, we can leave behind our CUSA conference mates. Think of the travel costs. The hurt feelings.
