we won't play ND, they just signed a long deal with UT so that they get TX exposure. We need the attendance and wins, so play UNT (or other regional school that will bring fans), Utep, TCU and maybe Baylor.
We will get lots of exposure playing our BE schedule if the conference stays the way it will. Boise, AFA, Navy, WVU, LV, UH will bring fans to our place, and those will be big time games. With TCU, UNT, Baylor...that will seriously bump attendance numbers over the next few years. I bet we agree to TAMU buyout again.

Nacho: "i want to play ut."
Agree, as long as we don't have to be in a conference with them.
I definitely support playing Rice. I'm a traditionalist and I would hate to just throw away our tradition and history with a truly outstanding school. Rice and TCU every year, no matter what conference we're in.

Don't mean every year with ND by any means and agree with locals, but just a few times in the coming years would be great and fun.

I'm not sure if it's contractual, but ND committed to play 2 to 3 teams from the Big East every year. With Navy possibly joining the conference, this could take away from one of those games. But if the Big East survives long enough, I wouldnt be suprised to see SMU play ND.

I'm all for inking a deal with Tulane. Easy opponent and still get the occasional trip to NOLA.

no interest in rice. they will be dropping down out of d-1 anyway.
manage the W's Play some local push-overs since we will have all we want with TCU and regular conference. After TCU figures out they get taken to the wood shed yearly by 5 teams, our game will be even more important since they will have to get at least 3 OC wins.

It is contractual. 2 a year one on the road and one in South Bend. We will face them once every 6 years and once every 12 in Dallas. I hope at Doak's House.

TCU, UTSA, Texas State and NTCC. That's 3-1 OOC at worst even in down seasons and they'll bring more to Ford than the average road opponent.

IF we eventually join the Big East and part ways as conference mates with Rice, I agree they are a viable non-conference opponent, but not as attractive to me as UNT. Better crowds for UNT and both programs will want home/home deals to play us. Tulsa and Tulane rank right there with Rice (small privates that won't travel well) and UTEP with UNT (state schools who will bring 5,000)

Rice would have plenty of angst for SMU, but still no fans. I say no.

we draw a ton of kids from CA - would be smart to try to schedule a home and home with someone out there.

Agreed, plus if we go undefeated now we might get a shot at a national championship game.

If we ever expand Ford Stadium I think we should invite Notre Dame to be the opening game. After all, we opened their stadium in 1932? (or thereabouts).
